Alaska Governor Sarah Palin to resign from post July 26

The Democrats will support Palin running as the Republican nominee. They really, really, really do.

Quote:
Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin says she will resign from office July 26.
Her spokesman wouldn't say why Palin decided to step down, but the announcement stirred speculation that she would focus on a bid for the 2012 Republican nomination for president.
Spokesman Dave Murrow says Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell will be inaugurated at the governor's picnic in Fairbanks at the end of the month.

This is a national poll (and hopefully done right) but I just saw the Alaska polling numbers in May, '09 for Palin and she has slipped.

This could be a strategy for Palin to resign before the next election, where she may have a tight race or be defeated.

It's possible.

The numbers below show that she's popular among many Republicans (those who claim to be a Republican) but her unfavorable (negative) ratings are in the 40s in the general public.

To a national candidate, you have to get the independents. And also, those that claim to be "Republican" is a small base than before.

Pew poll: Palin popular among Republicans but polarizing

Gov. Sarah Palin “continues to be a divisive figure among the general public” but is hugely popular among Republicans, according to a new national survey by the Pew Research Center.

The survey, conducted June 10-14 among 1,502 adults reached on landlines and cell phones “finds that impressions of Sarah Palin have not changed much since the presidential campaign.”

....Nearly as many of the people surveyed said they have an unfavorable impression of Palin (44 percent) as have a favorable view of her (45 percent).

Unlike Romney, Palin’s ratings continue to be much better among conservative Republicans (80%) than among moderates and liberals in the party (62%). And while positive views of Palin have slipped among non-evangelical Republicans (from 77% to 67%), they remain overwhelmingly positive among white evangelical Republicans (84% now, 85% last October).

Palin receives a more favorable rating from those with a high school degree or less (48% favorable, 36% unfavorable) than she does from college graduates (41% favorable, 52% unfavorable). Regionally, she is somewhat better regarded in the South (49% favorable) than she is in the Northeast (39% favorable).

Here is what some on the Right are saying about her, today. She can't finish the job.......................
Why would anyone vote for someone who did not finish their job?

Quote:
If it’s her duty to always “protect” Alaska, then that strongly implies not walking away from the responsibility of governing it — a responsibility she sought, and with which her constituents trusted her to execute. No one leads by quitting. No one leads by quitting. Palin’s abandoning her post, and at least from her own description, doing it because she doesn’t want to deal with the issues of being a “lame duck,” a status all politicians have to handle at some point.

I’ve seen a myriad of excuses on Twitter and e-mail for this bizarre resignation: her legal bills are too high, she’s putting her family first, she doesn’t want to distract Alaskans because of cheap-shot ethics complaints that are distracting everyone. None of those make any sense. If the spotlight was too much, then she shouldn’t have run for office in the first place. If she’s quitting because people are taking potshots at her, then she’s not the kind of political fighter we thought she was. The legal bills might be a rational reason, but thoroughly insufficient for betraying the people who put her in charge of Alaska — and her memoirs would have paid for her legal bills many times over, had she completed her term.

There’s really no excuse, and what Rich Lowry also calls her “terrible,” “rambling,” and “not at all persuasive” statement showed that. Unless there was a serious illness or a serious scandal, the resignation on the grounds Palin gave is simply incomprehensible. She has destroyed her own credibiity in a single day.
From a (very) Right-wing web site Hot Air » Blog Archive » Is Palin’s national political career over?

More from the same site:

Palin's speech:
Quote:
“Once I decided not to run for re-election, I also felt that to embrace the conventional ‘Lame Duck’ status in this particular climate would just be another dose of ‘politics as usual,’ something I campaigned against and will always oppose. It is my duty to always protect our great state. With that in mind, my family and I determined that it is best to make a difference this summer, and I am willing to change things, so that this administration, with its positive agenda, its accomplishments and its successful road to an incredible future, can continue without interruption and with great administrative and legislative success.”
Writer:
Quote:
Bear in mind that the election isn’t next month but about 16 months from now, in November 2010. Using this logic, Palin should never have run for the first term unless she was willing to run for the second, and not run for either if she wasn’t willing (or legally able) to run for a third. Politicians don’t enter lame-duck status until their successor has already been elected and they’re running out the rest of the term. And all politicians become lame ducks at some point — and none of them quit just to avoid it.
Link is same as above.

LMAO!!

She tripped over her words as the VP running mate, and got smoked (those SNL parodies were right on), gotta love Tina Fey.

She sounded just as disoriented today. WTF are you talking about Sarah? Looking forward to the upcoming comedy skits.

There is no way in hell this woman will become our next president. As stupid as the American public is, I have faith that the consensus will see thru the ladder climbing agenda.

She ain't bad to look at though...

Agree or disagree with her politics, she's a good person & didn't deserve what she got. People were absolutely horrible to her and her family. God Bless her.. I hope she is done with her political career. She's too good of a person to be treated how she is.

You don't have to hope. She brought an end to her political career when she accepted the VP nomination.

As far as her person, I haven't the faintest idea if she is a good person or not. Just like you don't know Barack is a bad person or Bill Clinton.

clinton had an affair. that of itself tells me he is not a good person. i have no respect for those who dont live their marriage vows.

Obama. I generally believe he is a good person that wants to do what he feels is best for the country. i just happen to have differing opinions on what is best for the country

I can see where your coming from, but just because a man lets another woman slob his knob doesn't mean he's a bad guy, that's just a slip of a mans character.

Being he was guilty of this more than once, I'd say the latter would be more accurate.

Now, wouldn't you like to have a beer with a guy like that?.....Or with somebody who was going to get you drunk and have somebody else steal you're wallet?

WASHINGTON - Sarah Palin's bizarre bailout dooms her chances of ever being President, Republican mandarins said Friday - but she was already finished.
The Alaska governor's disastrous star turn as John McCain's running mate, followed by her lurching, controversial encore on the national scene, had already sealed her fate - except, perhaps, with the GOP's most far-right wing. ( Busy)
Still, the experts were unanimously stunned to hear her walk off the job with 16 months left in her term - shrinking her résumé even more and surrendering the best platform she has beyond her double-edged celebrity status.
"If you aspire to the highest office in the land, then suddenly think your lieutenant governor can do a better job - not exactly a profile in courage," one party pro told the Daily News.
Few GOP insiders were surprised Palin decided against running for reelection. The Alaska statehouse is too isolated a locale for any politician aspiring to high national office, they said.
"You need to be in the Lower 48 to be credible politically," a senior adviser to several Republican Presidents noted.
But quitting mid-term with a rambling rant is not the way to get there.
"She proved she couldn't play in the big leagues last fall and now she's proven it again," one of the party's most prominent kingmakers said. "If you can't even handle a governorship, there's no way you can handle the White House.
"She couldn't win - but now she can't even run," added the official, who once was among her most fervent boosters.
"She has an incredibly thin résumé, a serious lack of gravitas, no coherent philosophy and the people around her are amateurs," another top Republican pol argued. "She's finished."

Post This could be just the tip of the Iceberg...

Did an embezzlement scandal force Sarah Palin to resign?

Quote:
Max Blumental reports on The Daily Beast that Sarah Palin may have quit her job today because she was trying to avert a major, yet-to-be-disclosed corruption scandal. The gist of the rumor is that an Alaska building company called Spenard Building Supplies (SBS) was awarded a contract by Palin to build a hockey arena in Wasilla, AK, and in return, SBS helped construct Palin’s home:

100% Agree. So what if she is a bitch, I 100% disagree with her politics, but no one deserves what she has been getting over the past year. I have no idea how she did it, I doubt I could have without blowing someone's head off. Having said that, I am with bio, she needs to be as far as possible from a GOP ticket in 2012 for them to win. I would like them to go more middle of the road, hopefully they do.

"She's a good person."

We don't know her personally. Maybe she is; maybe she's not. She's a politician.

National politics can be brutal. Especiall with a person as divisive as Palin. Palin slung a lot of mud herself. She was brutal.

Nastiness in national campaigns goes back to the days of Thomas Jefferson.

When he was running his opponent published leaflets saying Jefferson's mother was a prostitute and that he had black genes in his family.

Quote:
I hope she is done with her political career.
It's a plus for the GOP, in my opinion. Palin appealed to a very small base statistically.
