Medical error and incompetance.

I recently made an appointment and got in to see my health care provider the same day because I woke up with blood coming from my left nipple.

The woman who waited on me wasn't my regular Dr but a FNP. She answered a question I had about my meds then shoved my chart in my hand like "we're done you can leave now" without ever even addressing my breast bleeding. She was running behind and determined to catch up. I did leave and I filed a complaint against her and she is currently facing two charges of violating nursing laws in my state.

My mom recently was in the hospital fighting for her life. After 2 weeks of stabilizing her enough so her blood pressure was down, her potassium levels were normal and her one good kidney was recovering enough so she could get a biopsy she was allowed to go home a few days 'till her kidney biopsy.

Her potassium was a big concern because she'd been low and was given potassium pills which her doctor kept her on far too long and her levels were dangerously high by the time he realized he hadn't monitored her levels. So she was in the hospital straightening out her doctor overdosing her with potassium. They stabilized her levels and sent her home with perscriptions and instructions.

After a couple days home my dad took her to the er and was told she was "seconds from a massive coronary". Supposedly a "computer glitch" was responsible for having her on 8 times the dosage of potassium she was supposed to be taking.

If he hadn't brought her in she would have died. They live in the country and an ambulance is at least 20 minutes away. She was just in the damn hospital fighting to get her potassium levels under control.

Someone I know recently had blood tests. He was called after and told everything was fine, his tests showed no problems. He felt this was wrong and made an appointment to see his doctor and discuss his results. His results were not normal at all, they clearly showed a significant problem that needed lifelong treatment.

I'm starting to wonder how intelligent a person needs to be to practice medicine...

btw Potassium chloride is used as the third of a three -drug combination in lethal injection. It has also been used by doctors both in assisted suicides and in murders.

Neither of us have any intent to sue but I'm wondering if that is a mistake that could endanger others. And I'm pissed they say it was a machine's error and not a human error.

My mother's best friend,Joyce, had the wrong kidney removed due to medical error. She didn't sue either even though it was her only good kidney.

Opinions? Experiences?
