LOS ANGELES—As the White House considers sweeping strategic shifts in the war in Afghanistan, heroin addicts across the nation called on President Obama Monday to stick with the current U.S. policy, which has flooded the world market with low-price narcotics. "There's no need to change nothing, Joe Biden," said addict Reginald "Bones" Dillow, who, when conscious, is an outspoken proponent of the U.S. military strategy that has resulted in a nearly 40-fold increase in Afghan opium production since the end of Taliban rule in 2001. "Everything is so cheap—it's all totally fine like it is, right? Over there, I mean. Why would you want to…do the…[garbled]." Obama is reportedly looking into economic incentives that would both persuade poor Afghans to cease opium cultivation and benefit chemically dependent Americans, the most promising of which involves constructing facilities in the war-torn country for the manufacture of methadone

Yes, there is Heroin here, in VN.
I've never seen it directly but it's always close buy. I believe a shot of smack here is about $2.50.
Sometimes, a young western traveller backpacker or tourist will die, because it's more pure here and doesn't get cut as it moves to the US and other countries.
I've never tried, and don't plan to.
My ex-landlord died from a Heroin OD. They found him on the floor curled up in a ball, dead.
Another guy I was getting to know died in bed at the age of 41. All of the signs of an OD.

A lot of Vietnam Vets came back to NYC addicted to Heroin, it was also where a huge shipment of Heroin came from in the 70's.
Yeah.
I know a vet who tried it first in the late 60 in 'Nam and kept doing it in the US. He finally kicked the habit.
I don't know much about it, but here's a story, that happened about 4 months ago.
A young American guy 24, pretty smart (or seemed smart) was looking for cocaine in Saigon. Very stupidly he ask guys on the street corner. A guy said, "yeah, yeah, give me money I'll give you cocaine." (Lie.)
He brought back heroin and this young guy snorted it.
He came into a bar, saying he felt "good" but that it wasn't coke, that he took, but some other thing, he didn't know about.
He then went in the bathroom about 4 times and threw up.
Finally he went home.
Glad I don't do that stuff. I also have a friend that was a manager - yes, a manage at a company who smoked Heroin for 4 days, and even went to work on it.
Other guys I know are dabbling in it. They tell me, "no you cannot get addicted to Heroin by smoking it."
They are wrong. It's a opiate or opiod, and you can get addicted by smoking.
to each their own.

Heroin is like pure sweet Sunshine in your veins, goes in pours up your arm and then hits your heart and shoots out in all directions...you feel it burst into your brain and it's like you just opened the door of your dank cave mind onto a warm spring day, the warmth overwhelms you, you feel like the whole universe is hugging you tight....but soon that sun sets and darkness slowly creeps in leaving you barren, cold and naked in your own mind......

You know whats even better than that, opium....I felt like I'd huffed on a warm can of whipped cream and it had gone straight up into my skull filling the outside with a protective cusion, a full pillowy, billowy mind you just want to lay on it, it's almost better than laying your head on a pair of soft titties...you can just stare at the floorboards forever and not give a shit....
