Sylvester Stallone Paintings Sell for $90k

Rambo star Sylvester Stallone is generating some press at Art Basel Miami after selling two paintings for $90,000. The 63-year-old action star unveiled a handful of broad-chested pieces with Zurich-based Gmurzynska Gallery, including a rough rendering of a decrepit, aging superhero. Painted in his post-Rocky V phase, “Toxic Superman” is about the “ups and downs of Hollywood,” according to Stallone, who goes on to tell The Art Newspaper about the hardship of being a man, noting that “the US working male is a dying breed.”

Kudos for being multifaceted, but I hate abstract art. If the right person says it is good, retards will buy it for $90,000.

Sly must have known the right person.

Supposedly he does other art, not just abstract and is said to have some talent, but I agree people will buy it because it's Stallone's work and he signed it, which that alone may make it a good long term investment.

my four year old niece can do better fingerpainting then this shit. My shits look better. Anyone wanna see? Theyre actually what I like to call "abstract sculpture". They represent what it feels like in modern age to be a man who's turmoil in his life is beset by the emotional challenges of everyday life.

Why does he feel compelled to use the mustard and ketchup theme like McDonalds? Yeah I can see the semblance of him in each one but who here couldn't mold a smattering of paint into a rudimentary caricature of ourselves? Jackson Pollock could weave patterns that inspire stories in my head, I like his work; Rothko's blurred portals mesmerize me, I like his work; Dali is Dali, I love his work....... This stuff is just very amateurish in it's need to use every tube of color that came in the little, Beginner's Monet Kit that he picked up at the art supply....and I hate critiquing artists but it is just too busy with color and god awful mixtures of color at that.....
Coarse edged youth, the irish pendants string from their smiles
not yet plucked as to slacken the seams
and drag down the features of age,
no folds or creases from unkempt wear
    eyes of tranquilty, crystalline-beads
no sign of despair in their hair, nor their hearts
but oh they have yet to be experienced and that makes aging so very worth it...ML circa2012

I saw an expose on him a decade or so ago. I think it was 60 Minutes. They got to talking about art and how he was just getting into painting. They showed a few of his works and I was amazed at how good it was.

But this shit is just shit.

I've seen the undersides of public park picnic tables laden with bubble gum that look better than those things.....

Probably not known the right person as much as he is the "right" person, a celebrity. Anyone else could do the same work, however there's just one Stallone, star of Rocky and Rambo, and so his paintings command that kind of money.

    Crazy.

In my travels around the seedy underside of the internet, I've seen chicks shoot paint out their pooper on to canvas. Sly's paintings are on that level, minus the attractive, multi-talented women of course.
