Detroit is salivating over this...this could be the big 3s tickets to get back in the game

Yep.....I remember Audi's having a similar problem with their trannies shifting into drive on their own.
Their sales plummeted big time after that. I loved the Audi's but Toyota's I never cared for.....
Toyota News - Toyota suspends sales over Toyota... | Gather
In Toyota news today, Toyota suspends sales due to a Toyota recall list including the RAV4, Highlander (SUV's), Sequoia, Corolla, Camron, Avalon (cars), and the Matrix and Tundra (pickup trucks). The recall of 2.3 million Toyota vehicles comes due to wielding quality concerns, and will see assembly lines at five North American plants go idle starting the week of February 1st. The announcement made last week of the recall was because of parts made by CTS Corp, that could "mechanically stick in a depressed position or return slowly to the idle position".
There was a Toyota recall back in November 2009 where 4.3 million of their vehicles were recalled due to a pedal shape issue. In that instance, there was a safety issue due to the pedals getting stuck to driver-side floor mats. There's an overal of about 1.7 million vehicles which are affected by both of these recalls.
The Toyota news that Toyota suspends sales could mean hundreds of millions of dollars in lost revenue for the giant automaker. The stock declined as much as 3.4 percent today over the news. As Toyota suspends sales of the 8 particular vehicle models, the models in question accounted for 56 percent of Toyota's United States car sales last year.

"due to wielding quality concerns"
They can't get a grip on quality? Is the role of an editor completely dead these days? "Oh we have spell check everything should be fine if there are no red squiggles in the article, send it out...."
I mean it's the heart of the article and they fuck it up...
The computers will handle everything why should we check it, Toyota probably fell into this same way of thinking, if we start expecting computers to handle security at airports I'm afraid it might happen there....
Coarse edged youth, the irish pendants string from their smiles
not yet plucked as to slacken the seams
and drag down the features of age,
no folds or creases from unkempt wear
eyes of tranquilty, crystalline-beads
no sign of despair in their hair, nor their hearts
but oh they have yet to be experienced and that makes aging so very worth it...ML circa2012

CTS corp response:
CTS News Release
Why would Toyota suspend sales when less than a dozen instances have been reported with none of them causing an accident?
Would any of the other "big 3" manufacturers do the same?
I've owned cars from all of the big 3 as well as Toyota. Guess which one has been the most trouble free out of the bunch?
Just saying....

My wife drives this same Lexus model. Haven't noticed the floor mat interfering at all with the accelerator.

I wonder why the cop didn't just turn the engine off?
hmm... maybe if they invested the money into more quality, instead of a $300,000 supercar project that many ppl will never see, they wouldn't be here.
Or they could have just listened to the complaints of these problems that have been apparent for some time now, and solved this problem sooner.
Ah well.....

Woman ditches her Toyota for a Ford after massive recall
Retired teacher Mary Ann DeFrancesco has driven Toyotas for 12 years, but Monday she switched to a Ford.
Her loyalty ended when Toyota recalled millions of vehicles because of faulty gas pedals just weeks after she leased a brand-new Corolla.
Stamford Ford Lincoln Mercury owner Dominic Franchella, 50, read about DeFrancesco's plight in the Daily News last week and wanted to help.
"I thought to myself, 'If this was my mother, I wouldn't want her out there if she was that scared,'" said Franchella.
Franchella offered DeFrancesco a one-time deal to trade her Corolla for the sporty Focus, and pay the same lease amount.
"It'll be an expense to my dealership, but I think it's money well-spent because I'm helping someone, and hopefully turning her into a loyal Ford customer," he continued.
DeFrancesco, 63, spent yesterday afternoon test-driving the Focus and will have her Corolla hauled out to Stamford, Conn.
"It's just what I need because I'm tired of worrying and wondering," she said. "I just can't go on like this. It's a bad place to be."
