Hate to burst your bubble but the only person who can get us out of this rut has to be resurrected.
No Democrat nor anyone in the GOP can do any better.

There has been mention of a 1994 type of change.

One factor is similiar; one factor is different.

    Similar:

Opposition by more and more voters to Obama's policies and the Dem on Congress. Similar to 1994.

    Different:

No platform, nor contract, no solid message from the GOP.

Except for "cutting spending," the GOP doesn't have a clear and succinct message like Gingrich's Contract with America. The GOP is severely fractured.

True. But, a cut in spending, as small and insignificant as it would likely be, would still be a step in the right direction. It doesn't seem like we could do much worse than what we're dealing with now. An unsustainable 3.8 trillion dollar budget, 40% of which is going to come from borrowed funds is some scary shit.

Perhaps if we had a similar revolution, Obama would take a page out of the Clinton playbook and use some of the repubs' ideas and take credit for it if it seemed to be working. Who knows. Someone new from the republican party, like Newt, might just surface and show real leadership.

Agreed. A cut in spending is necessary. And I mean cutting Social Security as well. It's actual in the hole today, 27 years before being projected to be.

Medicare. I don't have answers, but Medicare is and will be worse than Social Security.

77 million baby boomers from from 1946 to 1964: SS for them started on Ja 1, 2008. Medicare will start for them on Jan 1, 2011.

Perhaps if we had a similar revolution, Obama would take a page out of the Clinton playbook and use some of the repubs' ideas and take credit for it if it seemed to be working. Who knows. Someone new from the republican party, like Newt, might just surface and show real leadership.
I think he'll have to change.

Newt Gingrich is a sharp guy and I like hims, but his comments on Medicare in the 1990s may or may not stick with him.

Clinton's playbook after 1994 was good and it worked: Triangulation.

Dick Morris got it going, and it worked for Clinton very well.

Right, triangulation. I loved it when John Kerry attempted it in 2004 with "I actually did vote for the 87 Billion before I voted against it."

I take back what I said yesterday about not hoping that Obama fails. I hope he fails the fuck all over the place.

Then maybe, just maybe, the majority of Americans will want real change.

    By real change I mean:
    • creating a truly balanced budget
    • making the tough cuts to make the budget balance
    • stop giving aid to other countries
    • wrap up the wars in the Middle East
    • closing off our borders
    • expunging every last illegal in this country
    I can hope...
So many cries of inequality stem from one of group
of people doing little or nothing and then bitching
about another group that actually does something
    to improve their lives.

I've tried that, but it doesn't really help me sleep. I usually just throw a coupla extra blankets on it to make it softer.

Yes, I hope he fails also. If he fails we might get closer to a balanced budget, no more runaway spending, no govt healthcare, no civilian trials for foreign terrorists, and many other advantages that come with him not ramming his agenda down our throat.

Fortunately, it looks as if he's going to be a far bigger failure than even GWB could've hoped to be.

Could we get some clarification please? I'm hearing a whole lot of people in a whole lot of places saying they want Obama to fail or they don't want him to fail. For clarification, could we please say, "I hope Obama fails in his attempts to enact his current policies"? It's the policies he's trying to put in place that we're really against, right?

Because to make the blanket statement that you hope HE fails means you hope the President of the United States fails and that would mean the entire country would fail. Yes, I realize it's a semantics issue but, it's an important semantics issue in my mine.
Rules? You mean we have RULES for that???

    You have a mine? Gold?

Good point. I don't think anyone wants the President of the United States to fail. I think people really miss, and are seeking, a President with true grit, not a political cardboard character.....one who is not afraid to call things like they are, set aside/castigate all political B.S. and work for the betterment of this country. Until then, enjoy the politics show.

"It's gonna be the age of humankind...
standing up for something pure and something right!
What a bunch of garbage-- liberal Democrat conservative Republican.
It's all there to control you. Two sides of the same coin.
Two management teams bidding for control!
The C.E.O. job of Slavery, Incorporated!
The truth is out there in front of you, but they lay out this buffet of lies!
I'm sick of it, and I'm not gonna take a bite out of it! Do you got me?
Resistance is not futile. We're gonna win this thing.
Humankind is too good! We're not a bunch of underachievers!
We're gonna stand up and we're gonna be human beings!
We're gonna get fired up about the real things, the things that matter:
creativity and the dynamic human spirit that refuses to submit!
Well, that's it! That's all I got to say! It's in your court."
Coarse edged youth, the irish pendants string from their smiles
not yet plucked as to slacken the seams
and drag down the features of age,
no folds or creases from unkempt wear
    eyes of tranquilty, crystalline-beads
no sign of despair in their hair, nor their hearts
but oh they have yet to be experienced and that makes aging so very worth it...ML circa2012

Okay, I hope he fails to enact his shitty socialist policies and he goes back to his community organizing and his biggoted church in three years. Incidentally, his wife is also an angry black bitch with a gigantic chip on her shoulder. I bet the puppy he got for his daughters is just as bitter about having another female dog in the house.
