the special effects and 3-D aspect of the movie were the best I have ever seen, but the storyline and the actors, umm, not so much.

Sigourney's character was a joke. She was a hard-ass, cigarette smoking, take-no-shit, native loving, caring, heart of gold person.

    All over the map.

Eye Candy is good sometimes.... I heard on NPR the other day a rant about how the remix of every artform is killing creativity, this movie's plot was discussed (along with Hip-Hop R&B and pop music), how it was bits of every Sci-Fi movie we'd ever seen. It's nice they spent so much on the graphics but how much did they cut out of the writing budget?

It was a good movie, but I am not buying the hype even after the fact.

You just described my (late) Great Aunt Eleanor.

The movie was okay...most ten-year-olds could appreciate it. The animation was good, but all in all, not as much of a hit as it was advertised to be.

How could you like it? Gargamel wasn't even in it! I hate it when they remake an old show into a movie and drops characters.

Most over rated film of all time. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it but I can name at least 50 science fiction/fantasy films that are better.

Watched it on my laptop. Turned it off after about an hour and a half. Very long and very predictable.

I'd imagine in 3D it would be awesome though.

Since when did it become the cool thing to do to bash anything and everything that was liked by mainstream culture.

Sometimes the masses like something because of sheep syndrome. Sometimes they like something because it is....good.

The special effects were amazing, the acting was very decent, the plot kept the movie going without bogging down, and overall the movie was extremely entertaining.

Since when does a movie have to have complex plot twists to be a genuinely entertaining experience? If you are too high-minded to relax and just enjoy an action movie for what it is, then why bother going to the movie in the first place? Read a book or something.

I agree Littlewing. Really really good movie. Thoroughly enjoyed it in 3D, bought it on Blu Ray, watched it with my kids (who also enjoyed it) and will watch it again.

I guess that makes me uncultured or retarded, with an obvious lack of sophistication.

I watched it on my monitor. Absolutely loved it! I would have loved it more on the big screen. The colors were beautiful. I liked the story, too. Wasn't anything about the movie that I didn't like.

I found the pseudo/over the top/eco-green blah blah blah trite and predictable.

The visuals and the applied science involved in developing the backdrop, however, made up for that part. Loved it anyway, and I only saw it on an airplane monitor. Now I want to see it in 3-D.

Started back in 93. The whole grunge thing came out. Everyone was into Nirvania but then peeled off onto smaller bands with music that sounded like nirvania but not them. Those small bands have never made it. The cool people now follow bands like that.

It's gay to be a fan of Fall Out Boy 2008. Not gay 2002. See the distinction?
It's cool to have someone in your car and ask "what is this" and you say it some underground band I found. Makes them think you into the scene, you know.

Or really I could give a fuck. I just don't listen to mainstream cause I don't like it. As for movies. I didn't like Avatar. Loved Braveheart and Fern Gully.

I also watch Sparticus on Startz in case you haven't heard.

But just because you enjoyed it does not make you retarded. I did just watch "the men who stare at goats" and thought it was ok.

Don't get your panties in a bunch. That was a joke for danzkit17. Hence the winking emoticon.

As for the movie, it was visually appealing, but the "white/western people are evil" and the "natives are perfect" message was crap. Also, not every movie needs to have a complex plot, but it also shouldn't rip off another movie almost scene for scene.

I've seen that one before, and it is funny, and even true. It is exactly the same story. That in no way makes it less entertaining. Movies are remade, renamed, copied ad nauseum, and have been since the moving picture became part of the worldwide lifestyle.

Hell, I would never criticize anyone for their choices in movies, and if you didn't like it you didn't like it. For example, Citizen Kane is regarded as one of the greatest films ever made, and I could barely sit through it. Doesn't mean the movie was bad, just that it wasn't in my taste.

What I can't stand is the almost automatic rejection of anything mainstream by a certain subculture in our society. It was liked by the masses. The masses are sheep. The masses are less intelligent than I. Therefore the movie/book/song/band is too low-brow for me. I retain my intellectual superiority.

Psuedo-intellectuals have always driven me up the wall. Wasn't directed at you or anyone else here, just a huge pet peeve of mine. Seems like common sense. If you like huge, big-budget special effect action flicks, go see it! If you can't stand them, and instead enjoy a film with subtle nuances and plot twists, then a movie featuring blue aliens fighting robots probably won't be a film for you. Same reason I don't stand in line to see the next Sex in the City. Not my thing, and I would be sort of foolish to spend money to watch it and then bitch when I dont like it.

The emo/goth crowd sort of trends this way, and I hate them about as much as I hate terrorists and child molesters. "I am not like all you sheep! I am special and individual and different! I will prove this by dressing and acting like these people over here! Stupid sheep!"

Panties untwisted, just one of my triggers :P
