Its understandable. Like i said the biggest thing is to find a place where you fit in and are not intimidated by anyone. There are many places out there unfortunately for many martial arts that are comprised of 1 or 2 year veterans, who think they are Bruce Lee, the shit, and love to whoop up on the newbies.

I transferred over well as I started boxing, then kickboxing, then muay thai. So as with any martial art, find a good teacher, and/or good training partners, and you will catch on quick and everyone will go easy on you til you reach the level you want.

    I studied hapkido and taekwondo.
    I found hapkido more interesting.

Along with this advice, I'll add: If you're going to get into Muy Thai, try to get an instructor who is Thai from Thailand. If his English is flawless, you've got the wrong instructor. Just my $0.02.

Lol my girl is from Thailand, her English is pretty good, a slight accent but thats all.... I tried a Krav maga class tonight. Some of the instructers where overweight, they seemed kid oriented and desperate for new members. Sucks that they are the only krav place around. The master said I had a very naturally strong kick, and the student holding my bag told me I had a better kick then some of the regular students. Their moves seemed kinda impracticle. But again it may have just been this institution.

Give it a chance. Maybe try 3 weeks or a month of it. If you decide you don't like it then go for the BJJ.

I can't speak for your instructor, but my instructor also looked fat. It wasn't until you spared with him that you realized two things: one, he hits like a freight train; two, he can fight for ten minutes full-go and not even break a sweat. Then I figured it out: the crazy ass Krav guy likes beer. He's a bunch of muscle wrapped in a beer gut.
