Thread: Why do people confess anyway?

Come on confess already... we know it was you.

Because when you confess, chances are your sentence will be less. Say for example, it was supposed to be an offense that is good for 10 years in jail. If you confess, chances are it will only be 5 or something.

People like to tell their story, and a lot of them feel so guilty they can't keep from confessing.....

Well my little bunny friend who has made numerous threads lately, if I am to take this seriously, it is because the police (or whom ever is doing the interview/interrogation) DO have enough to pin charges, but they want for the person to reveal more info the cops may not have or may not have complete.

Thats where "No Contest" comes in.

After starting a new job today, I had to hear a statistic I havent heard in a while. 1 out of 10 people steal, and 1 out of 48 times they steal are they caught.

the entire kinesic interview is designed to coerce a confession. It plays on psychological tensions created by uncomfortable surroundings, pressures from authority figures, and long periods of time leading to people confessing to just get it over with. In many countries, the psychological techniques are considered torture.

Most of the time they don't have enough so they invite you down too talk then lie , well then most will spill the beans...say nothing, the cops will bluff ya

Guilt would be the first thing that comes to my mind. Lower sentence would be another.

unless there is a Da with paper..nope..nothing the cop promises will not hold up in court....true....most people are dumb and think it will help them NO... never talk to the cops without a lawyer ..period....u will screw yourself...if you do .say nothing talking . now or later isn't going to make a diff..if they tell you that itsa lie..

One yells at you get's your nerves rattled and then the other comes in with, "I know my partners an asshole imagine working with him everyday, are you comfortable? You want a drink maybe something to eat, a cigarette even? Look I know how people make mistakes. I made a lot of bad choices before I joined the force, but I faced up to them and turned my life around....you can too. Just tell me your story before my partner gets back and starts yelling and banging tables again."

People confess because they want more than anything to tell their story and have someone listen to them.

Well, there is some truth toward confession, especially if the prosection has overwhelming evidence. Given the case: Barbara Graham, the first woman executed in the State of California, gas chamber at San Quentin. She was sought out along with others for the crime of pistol whipping a older woman to death that was wheel chair bound, as well a rap sheet that held many allegations. As the individual that confessed who was guilty and had taken part, then told authorites of those others involved...he was spared the death penalty. Many times to confess with certain cases will give some authorities more ties or open areas in cases that makes it then a "reduction" in charges for the informant

Not really, most of the time they DO have enough to fuck you, but they want more. So you can sit there and say nothing (which I recommend) and still get charged for something, but not charged for something worse.

Seldomly will they bring you in and hold you for 24hrs and not charge a thing on you. Thats TV.

Never confess.Look at Pete Rose ;they got that poor bastard to confess ,and now still wont let him in the hall of fame.

i heard cops will often promise things in exchange for honesty but are not legally bound to keep their promise and often don't.

It isn't a lock without a confession they need that to seal your ass up..that way you can do crap..but i have noticed once people start talking they just won't shut up about all the stuff they did...damn if your going to dosome bad shit tell no one...but thats just me 48hours

they can lie to you.its the law of theland ..unless a DA has paper with the deal in writing believe nothing they say..

its because the law police judges lawyers know how the human mind works,and they will use it to thier advantage they may say they have something but they dont thats y they push so hard for a confession 80% of the time they have only hearsay evedince.
