Joined a real gym!

Well, I quit my 24 Hour Fitness membership a month ago today, started doing all my workouts at home. Its wierd that its only been a month because it feels like 2.

Its not quite the same doing it at home, I certainly made due but I figured it would be good for me to try a gym membership again. Instead of going back to 24 Hour, I signed up at a World Gym that is only 7 miles from my place Alot more equipment, probably 4 or 5 times as much floorspace and stuff, and CRAP!!! On a saturday at around 2pm there were only probably 10 total people working out on the weights! Supposedly thier busiest times are from 4:30 am to about 9am, which is freaking stupendous. 24 Hour I had to go there from midnight to 7am, no other time of day could I go either due to work or it being PACKED so much that I am positive they are breaking fire code regulations. Anywho this is big news for me, I've been at 24 Hour for close to 6 years and this is a complete change for me, a "real" gym not a profit factory full of weenies and half assed jerkoffs.

I don't suppose anyone is in Burlingame but thats where I'll be for my workouts from now on, and no f'ed up sleep schedule anymore!

Our 24 hour Gym in our area stinks, too!

However, our Gold's gym is 24 hours and I love it!
Good decision, Mudge!

I don't work-out there, but what is so bad about 24 hour fitness?

I stand corrected. I re-dedited my first reply. Sometimes I forget that some don't have the luxury of a decent gym (when I stayed in Vermont to visit my family). I'll tell ya, in my ex-hometown there were two gyms. One was the health spa that wanted like $25 and if it snowed bad you dared not to go. ($25/day/guest pass) was not worth it either!!!)

The other Gym had three things. and you like this Prince

1) Located in a Barn (I kid you not. Hay was still on the ground!)
2) 14 pieces of equipment. (One person actual drew in white paint, Schwartzennaggar on a weight bench......spelled just like that)
3) Cardio- They had a sign that said, "The trail" and pointed out towards the back door of the barn!"

Not all 24 Hours Fitness may be "bad", but it is a TRUE money maker for the company. They try to fit as many people in as they can, they want you IN and OUT, and they make money selling supplements and personal training packages yada yada. The gym is not only small, but is way way packed. To SOME degree its seasonal, the 18 year olds who want to get in shape to show off, who end up in there for 3 hours socializing, etc

When it was 5-6 years ago I used to go after 10:30 PM and it was good, over the years I had to go later and later, and it really screws up your life trying to fit that into your schedule, so eventually I had to go to sleep earlier and go in the early AM before work, which was ok with me (actually kind of liked it). The main upper body room in that place, could have been about 90% humidity and probably 80ºF, all heated by people - and oddly enough they didn't have the freaking AC or ventilation on! When I go late at night though they almost always had that running, talk about bassackwards operations!

Basically the upper body room has 4 flat benches, 2 incline, and probably about 8 mixed flat and adjustable benches near the dumbell rack, some situp stations, a pec dec, cable Xover, 2 rowing stations, a machine T bar row (which is not a T bar, eh...), powerrack and an open overhead press rack. Fairly small room with not alot of equipment, now picture about 40 or 50 people in that room all waiting for equipment.

I remember waiting 45 minutes for the bench one time (the last time I ever went at that time again!!!), and the guy was pretty damn rude, when he left after knowing I was waiting forever, he just got up off the bench and left. It should have been a pretty short wait, but when his girlfriend came downstairs of COURSE the IDIOT had to throw on another 50 pounds and have her do rows while he did benches, what a FREAKING RETARD, I hate that. Anyway while he and she did about 2 weeks worth of bench pressing, I waited and waited, what a freaking jerkoff.

Anyhow the gym sucked, it was great for someone like myself other than the schedule it forced you to keep up with, and I truly saw 24 Hour Fitness for nothing but a profit machine. I tell you it was SO HORRID that they were very easily eclipsing fire regulations and am curious to know why I was not aware of them getting busted for it repeatedly.

I pay $5 more a month now, but it is way worth it to go into a place pretty much any time I want and have MULTITUDES of equipment to choose from, its like the holy grail......

Ahh, gotta love the college gyms. Damn near every time I go there I have the place to myself. And if somebody else comes in I usually have 'Slipknot' or 'Slayer' blasting so the don't stay too long

I can see it now! Walking in and hearing songs like, "Piece by Piece" or "Angel of death". blasting.

I was in a Connecticut gym and they were playing all 80's heavy metal! Fuking awesome and it's better than constantly hearing the S. Florida dance music!!!!

Slayer RULES, I just got some new tunes of thiers, damn good stuff. Redemption in my eyes from an album they did around 94/95 that I didn't like that much, silver cover, can't remember the album name... (Divine Intervention, that one!)

The gym actualy plays some metal kinda stuff which is pretty damn cool, in comparison I was either listening to R&B, or there was this one guy that would put on rap and then change it back every 4 minutes or so, that was freaking annoying. ONE OR THE OTHER DAMNIT, instead of changing crap all the time! argh

Yep, 24 Hour Fitness had some late night lamers working for them, getting on the intercom and doing stupid stuff, switching the music constantly, mostly one guy in particular, very annoying.

So far World's is a great damn gym, I'm still tripping out that I can go in there in the afternoons!
