Bullfighting is on it's way out, with Catalonia setting the precedent recently by banning it, it won't be long that the only chance to fight a bull will be head to head during the running of the bulls. I just hope they still have matadors who tease the bulls, but I never understood the point of jabbing swords into the shoulder blades....if it's supposed to be such a noble sport then why all the backstabbing????

and drag down the features of age,
no folds or creases from unkempt wear
eyes of tranquilty, crystalline-beads
no sign of despair in their hair, nor their hearts

Nope, it's to weaken the neck muscles so the bull isn't as ferocious and the head is lowered when the matador steps in the ring...the guy's on horseback in the second round are picador's and they place their horse in front and the bull will try to charge through and wear itself out, in the old days the horse had no protection and could end up with a horn in it's gut but then they started putting padded armor on the horse, the picador will jab a lance into the neck to weaken the muscles....next the flag banderilleros enter and jab those fancy sticks into the bull just get it a little angry and finally the matador then comes in a second time, after the initial first round where he tests the ferocity of the bull. The matador does his daring dance with the cape until the bull is worn down enough and then he maneuvers the bull into position to stab his sword through the shoulder blades piercing the heart....I just wanted to make a joke about backstabbing....
