get an ar lower receiver, then you can get all kinds of different uppers in a multitude of calibers: 5.56x45, .223, 5.7x28, 7.62x39, .50beowulf, you can even get an upper that shoots .50bmg. I haven't exhausted all possibilities of caliber but you get the idea. You can get a stripped lower for $100 online and that is the only part that requires an FFL to receive it. This is the part with the registered serial number on it. If/when you order it just have it, talk to an FFL (federal firearms license) owner about having it shipped to them, like a local gun shop.

Mini-14 are good rifles as long as you don't plan on firing it that much. The barrels are really thin and warp easy loosing accuracy. You can however order a replacement bull barrel which will improve accuracy and extend the life some what, but it adds a lot of weight.

they are more for collection.

If I bought a gun for my father, I'd shoot him with it.

I bought my dad a mini-14 for $199.00 and he has shot about 20 armadillos with it. I seems to love the gun.

My mom threw out all of my guns I inherited I wasn't too happy about that, there were some pretty sick ones in there.

Man I would love to get one for that now. They are currently 500-700!

An ar in .223 is more versatile and there are MILLIONS of parts that you can buy for them. Accurate and dependable.

i haven't found one cheaper than 849 and that is blued. stainless is almost 1k.

I have seen them on sale for 649.00 and I live in california. If its for a collection I would buy the AR. I have one and its sweet.

they are sweet.

do u need a permit to carry guns in FL roid? i have a pistol permit but i dont like guns. i think your dad would be happy at whatever you get him.

I meant 649.00 for the ruger. The Ar's are expensive.

for a pistol you do.

I wouldn't ever carry a pistol.

I love the mini 14and 30.Like someone said earlier get the heavier barrel.The ar is cool and versatile but I just love those Rugers.If I was your dad though I'd want all 3.

i know I liked the M4, it was very managable for what I was using it for. I think it actually too small of a caliber though. not quite enough stopping power for me. but it was pretty reliable!!!

I have a source for a couple AK's, some hand grenades and a cell phone battery compartment size amount of c-4

^^^c-4 isnt that dynamite? are aks illegal to own now or no? i dont follow guns. roid in ny you have to have a permit to own rifle and handgun. i dont own any guns no more. and i just got a regular pistol permit you need a special permit to carry a concealed handgun and they are worse to get than a pistol permit, at least in ny.

the c4 and hand grenades would be nice!!!

c4 is not dynamite it is a plstic compound explosive. it is unique in the aspect that you can burn it and nothing with happen. it takes ignition plus pressure to explode. (blasting cap) it is also moldible (sp) you can shape it and it will help direct the explosion. very unique compound!! det cord is also some interesting stuff.

FYI, there are a number of reports of firing pin problems with the Rugers.

i'm not exactly sure about florida but alabama you have to get a pistol perment and you must keep it concealed. It's not trouble to get a permit as long as you don't have a felony. I assume florida is the same or very similiar.

When obama got elected my dad and all his brothers went and bought more guns. My family has an arsenal that would equip a small army.
