Apparently our money isn't good enough, so they're considering changing it. Obviously they're still just planning. You ready?

I want currency that is legal tender and hard to counterfeit. Wasting money on shit like this is why we are broke.

before you bash Obama for nothing again you may want to do some actual research on the global problem with US currency counterfeiting. and why this would be a good thing. you probably didn't even know that China funds counterfeiting operations of US currency.

I want it gold- or silver- or other precious metal-backed. No more fiat.

not really...you do realize that EVERY single country/nation in the world carries debt with the exception of maybe Macow. there is surely tons of wasteful spending by the Gov but this is not it. designing new bills that are harder to counterfeit saves money. right now there are trillions of dollars of counterfeit US money circulating the globe. this "may" be helping to devalue the dollar.

They already added color and a lot of other measures to make it a lot harder to copy. This is just another stupid way for them to blow more and more money we don't even have.

it's a far better use of money which will save money in the long run..a true waste of money is spending billions a year maintaining stock piles of nukes that will never be used...talk about flushing money down the toilet

Building those nukes employs a large number of highly skilled people...not too mention all the tertiary benefits that come along from precision guided ballistics like the GPS on your phone, advancements in rocket propulsion/aerodynamics for space exploration and satellite launches, and advanced electronic communication and guidance for Multiple Re Entry Vehicles/Exoatmospheric Kill Vehicles. A lot of the technology is transferable for a potential asteroid killer (non nuclear, but kinetic).

I agree that the volume of nuclear weapons we have (10K+ according to pub domain) may not be the most efficient way of providing air defense...its certainly not "flushed down the toilet"

maintaining huge stock piles of nukes is nothing but a waste of money. would you buy a car and keep in fully insured and registered only to keep it in the garage for decades and never drive it? no you wouldn't...

I really love the color coded plastic shit Australia uses, you can't tear it, nor have it mangled in the wash and it's hard to confuse a purple 20 with a red 50. Our money is so outdated being the same shade of green forever....
Coarse edged youth, the irish pendants string from their smiles
not yet plucked as to slacken the seams
and drag down the features of age,
no folds or creases from unkempt wear
    eyes of tranquilty, crystalline-beads
no sign of despair in their hair, nor their hearts
but oh they have yet to be experienced and that makes aging so very worth it...ML circa2012

yea...I conceded the "huge stock pile" aspect as being inefficient.

but are you really comparing a consumer car to an Trident II?

A garage car doesn't have the same clout as a first strike weapon...foreign policy discriminator.

my original point was that spending a tiny bit of money to "save" money on the back end isn't waste. unfortunately people that aren't big picture thinkers only see what they want.

Trident II are BMs carried on subs they aren't land based BM's. I'm talking about the ballistic missile sites plastered all over the country that most people don't even know about.

Back in the mid 90's right before joined the Navy I was doing some work for a flooring company and we had to do a night time job down in Center City Philadelphia. The building that we went to was gov facility that manufactured nose cones for BMs right in the middle of Philly!

I know...but spending now and hoping to save money in the future requires a long term focus, which just doesn't work in the US.

    1. Our politicians live and die by 2,4, or 6 yr terms (which isn't a bad thing)
    2. Our fiscal health measuring stick weighs heavily on current ratios and cash flows...spending now and hoping to save later doesn't bode well for these quarterly indicators.
    3. Americans just don't think long term...its a cultural thing and its engrained in our social fabric

You see, I have never understood that argument. "Well it creates jobs". Well that isn't a good answer, and is hugely short cited. For instance, if the final product is useless, the work was useless, and the tax payer money used to fund the work was useless. You could have paid those same people to dig a fucking hole and then fill that hole back in with the same dirt. Sure, that created jobs, but nothing of real value was produced. The tax payers are the ones paying for this shit.

All we need was a handful of nukes as a deterrent to those who know that a nuclear attack on us was mutually issued destruction. The rest of it was just wasted.
