    Ssd

    Solid State Drive

Best upgrade I've ever done to a PC. I put my operating system on a SSD. Holly shit! I also put my most used programs that drive. Programs flash up from scratch like they were active and just minimized. Anyone else?? Starting my computer is crazy fast as well.

Only 80 but that's all I/most need if you route downloads ect to other drives. You can get bigger SSD drives if needed but if you are not paying attention all SSD are not big enough for neglectful users, IMHO.

Intel® - X25-M Mainstream 80GB Internal Serial ATA II Solid State Hard Drive

BTW, W7 64 and all important programs take up 25.4 GB on my system. You could get a 40 but performance actually increases with size but that's something I don't want to get into but you could look into that.

depending on the computer they can definetly be a great upgrade. I just put a 32GB SSD in one of my thinkpads and it boots up to the desktop in like 15 seconds.

Be sure that any SSD you have supports TRIM, and if you are still on Windows XP make sure it supports background garbage collection.

If your SSD doesn't support either of these options, performance will begin to suck after you've written to every sector of the drive once and you just won't be happy. The only solution at that point is to do a secure erase and reinstall stuff.
