Empires are born, they rise, and they decline.

The only uniqueness is the speed.
It's an accurate statement that our current spending will not be increasing the debt We've stopped spending money that we don't have.

-- Jack Lew, then director of the Office of Management and Budget, in Feb. 16, 2011 testimony before the Senate Budget Committee.

I can think of a few signs that the US is losing its influence, but those 10 examples aren't sound. And whats up with every sign depicting an American continent counter balance?

    Signs.....?
    1. Brazil is not our most powerful regional ally...Canada is without a doubt.

    2. The world's richest man makes no sense either...does this mean Mexico is taking over? lol. Plus the "richest" man concept is dependent on his companies (or former company is Gates case) stock price...they can fluctuate dramatically in this market

    3. The growth rate doesn't mean everything...a growth rate of 1.5% on a 15trillion dollar base still says something even when compared to a growth rate of 8% on a 1.5trillion dollar base

    4. Of course Chile is going to produce more copper...the country is virtually a giant copper mine. Would you expect the US to outproduce Saudi Arabia with regards to oil? Additionally, we don't consume as much copper either, b/c our infrastructure was built already...why would we produce a resource in record amounts if we don't need it

    5. see #4....again, a countries natural resource deposits are static and won't change regardless of global influence.

    6. Brazil was already part of the BRIC...hence the "B". THey have been for over a decade when US influence was growing to record heights.

    7. Greater share of GDP in clean energy...this is a #s game. The world also harps on the US for not "giving" enough when we donate more than any other country hand over fist. You can't look at ONLY %s...but also gross totals as well.

    8. Argentina rejecting IMF guidance? great...the IMF is a European controlled institution, The author should know better. The US controls the World Bank not the IMF

    9. Brazil not following US suit on Iranian sanctions? I'll agree on this one...we are losing influence in this regard.

unsound premises but a valid conclusion...too bad the author didn't know how to construct an argument.

its funny we are suppose to be a super power and russia has the most billionaires in any country in the world.. but the usa will always have mexico running. look at brovel labs, arturo is still running with his tail between his ass since operation gear grinder along with many other good quality factorys for gear. i dont know about the rest. but greece still is running since WE the good old USA did a gear crackdown in 1999. athens and another city iam not naming, is still scared the dea is going to get them for traficking. cause us customs searches every package that comes out of that country. as there STILL on the ALERT list. wtf.

Coarse edged youth, the irish pendants string from their smiles
not yet plucked as to slacken the seams
and drag down the features of age,
no folds or creases from unkempt wear

no sign of despair in their hair, nor their hearts
but oh they have yet to be experienced and that makes aging so very worth it...ML circa2012

    Angry

here is another issue that makes me think

On the TV and all over the news here in the state of California, we've got a problem with a woman, running for Governor and who is using her status, after being caught with illegal employees.( ones that don't have legal status to collect money here and being employed, to then the illegal usage of a social security) Now that being said, her campaign is talking about the US schools and their being ranked the lowest.

How many people, note that in order to pay for "OUR" schools, that it is then drawn from the taxes formed by those employed, to that of taxation of sales in each county? (if you have sales tax) This is another reason why we are losing our influence, we are being called "dumb asses" because this shit isn't taken to court and the SOB is then sworn in

    this is some sad SHIT

^ California is in rough shape and projection for the next 2 years aren't good.

As for the billionaires, who cares?

I think it's the about the middle class and what's happening to the middle class - it's shrinking.

The middle class is important in a nation's stability.
It's an accurate statement that our current spending will not be increasing the debt We've stopped spending money that we don't have.

-- Jack Lew, then director of the Office of Management and Budget, in Feb. 16, 2011 testimony before the Senate Budget Committee.

I just looked it up, and found 10 different sources all reporting the US to have more billionaires than any other country with 341. Brazil or Russia isn't even close. China has the second most at 89.

    So lnvanry is absolutely correct.

debt in terms of the federal deficit doesn't effect the quality of life of the working class it is the personal debt and related stresses does that. the total personal debt of Americans right now is about 8T which is 50% of the US GDP.

the UK is at 47% of GDP
France is at 67% of GDP
Canada is at 62% of GDP
Germany is at 62% of GDP
Japan is at 140% of GDP
Russia is 6% of GDP (notice the distinct lack of debt correlates with Russia having basically no global economic power)

lots of General's in Russia got rich selling weapons, hardware, etc. on the black market after the fall of the Soviet Union. Overall the fall of the Soviet Union has had a negative impact on global economics.

The global share of weapon sales for Russia as a whole wasn't (still isn't) much...but I'm sure some shade ball individuals got rich from it.
