Sick of the BS at my current job.

Lots of personal conflict with one of my staff that the owner won`t let me get rid of(been with the family in 3 businesses for 20 years, blah, blah). At least 5 people(out of 11 employees) have issues with this guy and want him gone. I`m very close to making this physical but will quit before that happens. That`s not me and he`s not worth going to jail for.

Anyone hiring in Central NJ? LOL

    ^ To clarify,

    You noted "family."

    Is this a family business?

Is the person of problem in the familiy?

    Are you?

We need to know this before going further.

Not exactly a family business. This guy is not related, but he did work for the owner`s father and brother in the same type of business, but separately owned and not affiliated. The owner, father and brother don`t even talk very often. No, I am not related to anyone either.

You're not in the Army, right? So you can quit and get a new job? I'd just do that if it's that bad.

He sabotages himself. Seems he can do no wrong. As far as quitting and getting another job, have you looked at the job market lately? I have an interview Thursday at a similar place.
I really didn`t expect any responses. I was just venting.

I always say, if you let a asshole ruin your day then what does that make you? not saying you are, i'm just saying that if you don't have to have direct connect then don't. and if you do, then pull into a private area and tell him your going to rip his throat out if he don't wise up.

I had a good conversation with a company today. I`m known in my field and they want to speak with me Thursday. I`m hoping to start a new job Monday but I won`t leave this one until I have something else.

I sympathize. I work in secondary education. Talk about BS. System is so broken I don't know if things will get fixed in my lifetime. Mostly I just shut my door and teach, and all the theorists and most of the administrators can kiss my pale white Norwegian ass. If kids are learning, they generally leave you alone, anyway.

Just quit and live off of welfare and food stamps. You'll have free health insurance soon so it won't be that bad. You can also deal drugs on the side for tax free cash.
I love getting high, I hate getting low, and I like to drive my truck down a muddy dirt road.

Don't quit, get fired. Then you can collect 3 years of unemployment thanks to President Hussein and the dimwitcrats. Unemployment is like welfare, but better, because you don't even have to sacrifice your standard of living.

Remember that what goes around comes around. Be the better person and don’t fall for lowering yourself and your beliefs to being a jerk. Walk with your head high and know that you will be rewarded for being the better person. Maybe not thru this job but life tends to reward those who do right.

    Caretaker,

I think the big twist in your decision to possibly quit, or "get physical" with this guy, is the sloooooow economy. Not a good time to be looking for a job - if - you don't have one.

Best of luck on whatever you decide, whether it's stay and put up with him, quit, or get fired.

As suggested, it's be best for you to get unemployment benefits, so you might be careful in choosing your route of exit.

If unemployment was say, 4.5%, you could just tell 'em to "take this job and shove it," and get another job, but with current conditions, it ain't as easy.

(I have 4 relatives in their mid and late 50s, who've been unemployed and underemployed for over 1 year. They were what I'd call "upper middle class," or solidly middle class. Even talked about retirement plans 2-3 years ago.

    Now, it ain't so.

Best of luck. Keep us posted.

yes it's much better to let people fall into poverty...you may want to actually learn about economics before you discuss it.

unemployment is like welfare? Ok there Sharon Angle...

My dad held much the same opinion. After over 40 years working in and for public education as a math specialist, he advised me to think twice when I looked at getting my M.A. in Education. He loved working with the kids, and hated the poltitics. Like myself, he did not suffer fools gladly. The greatest obstacle I've had in education hasn't been the kids, it's been the idiots who want to tell me how to teach, and the parents who refuse to do their jobs. The most successful teachers are the ones who learn to kiss ass and play the game. Unfortunately, I thought my main job was to teach kids to read and write well. Keeping my mouth shut is tough, and admittedly not my greatest strength.

yep...my father is pretty adamant about children and physical fitness and he used to come up with very creative ideas to get kids to move their bodies in various non-standard means, he was big on obstacle courses, etc. basically parkour for kids. he worked in a very wealthy school district in the Philly suburbs and a lot of the parents of the fat kids would bring in notes, etc. from the "Dr" trying to get their little porker kids out of gym class.

Figures. Sounds like he ran a fun class, and was focused on the right things to me. I wish my H.S P.E. class was more like you described. It's almost like creativity and passion for your subject is a liability these days. I've had more than one administrator suggest that I might be happier teaching at the college level. Some of these meatheads seem to believe that expecting excellence from a teenager is akin to child abuse. Hard to avoid feeling like you're working for the enemy, sometimes.

I have a pre 86 ban AR-15 with federal papers I can sell you if needed. Guaranteed to wipe out anyone within sight. Little spendy nowadays, considering all the federal regulations. I understand you can get upwards of 15 large for a well-maintained weapon. If you don't care about legal, they can be converted pretty easily if you know what you are doing. Good for about 10 years federal time if you get caught with it, though.

I`ve already been informed(a while ago) that I will NEVER be fired. If I get physical with this guy all that will happen is I`ll get locked up. He would never throw the first punch. And he would press charges. I`ll just wait until I find something I want and leave.

Then you need to find the things that get under his skin and just start fucking with him. make it a mental warfare game. as long as you know going in that it is your game. so no matter what he says or does, it don't matter. lay in bed at night and think of shit your going to say and do to him the next day. and then the next day you spend your day executeing your plan for that day. after a couple of days he will head the other way when he sees you coming. and if he don't, then the game continues.

We had a coach in High School who would use those notes against the kids, if some fatty came in with chronic sprained ankle syndrome he would make her do upper body weightlifting the whole period, if they were just too sick he would make them sit and do yoga stretches on the mats, no one ever got to just sit around doing nothing like they did in Middle school....

It sucks when there is one person that is making an otherwise good job hell. I just got out of that same sitch. It got so bad I had to quit. I walked in one morning and she was telling our co-worker that I was her dog. I just wanted to punch that chick in her fat face. So I walked instead.
