Tough one. I would probably let them know. Always good to take advantage of a chance to prove your ethics to your employer. Tempting to keep the money, but bringing it to their attention is probably worth more in the long run.
hello!
So I got paid today. I get paid every two weeks. I was recently promoted and my raise was supposed to kick in for the second week of my pay period. however, someone fucked up and gave me my new rate for the entire two weeks, over paying my by about $500.
should I let them know, or should I just shut the fuck up and play ignorant if they figure it out.

You could always hold onto it...and just not spend it, so if its recalled you can easily give it back. Or like others posted, it could create goodwill that will outweigh the 500.
Are you sure payroll screwed up and you weren't supposed to get that raise for the entire pay period? Did your boss clearly communicate when the adjust was supposed to be made? Not sure how big you company is, but it might have been easier for HR just to standardize the entire pay period with one rate...you'd be surprised how lazy people are sometimes, lol
nice bro. thats the killer. I am management. I get the email form the HR manager where she sends out the salary payroll to corporate and she cleary stated when my raise started NOV 08.
Also. I dont receive pay stups. I have to sign into a website to view my stub online.
so, from my perspective, the HR manager reported my earnings correctly. I received the monies in my acct. and I never recieved a pay stub to review.
lol. quite the situation...
oh and I wont spend it, I am doing ok lol

Glad you get to keep the bucks.

Let them come to you.
It is indeed an honor and you should be happy that you shine so much for the raise, that is probably why you got it for the whole time!

Just let someone know so you don't get fucked in the end.... I remember it seemed like my check in the Navy was higher just a bit at times but I just thought they were uniform allowances or something....When I left the Navy I suddenly got a bill for $5300.00 saying that they had erred on my bill a few times over the years and it totaled that much....
Long story short the Navy's severance system is fucked if you were an asset and decide to leave even though they throw all kinds of incentives to get you to stay, even have the XO call you into his ward room and practically beg you to stay....

I'll look into it tonight and if I was overpaid I will talk to the HR manager first thing.
you guys are right the opportunity to show my character and ethics is worth more than the money, even though I know no one will ever know.
thanks for the advice

I would say let them know, you will earn their trust. And it will be off your conscience

I would tell someone. It's only 500$. I would rather that then risk losing my raise or my job. Always better to be honest.

I agree to give it back. Most companies do audits every 6 months to a year. so if you give it back now you look good in the eyes of the company. If they figure it out in an audit six months or a year from now, they will want it back and you might not have it then, and you will look bad in the eyes of the company. IMO
