It should be better. The current generation, my generation, people in their late 20's will be close to 50 in 20 years. We are currently living through all these issues. 9/11, housing crisis, stock market crash. Personally I am learning a lot right now about how to save money and still be able to provide for my family. I just call it hard work. Most people forget what that is. Back in the early 1900's fathers would go away for months and bust their asses on huge projects that we were doing in this country. We need to get back to that. You baby boomers should start creating jobs so us younger generations can work. You guys had it a lot easier then we do. Shit, when you were my age you could work at a grocery store and still buy a single family home. Good luck with that now a days.

Sounds like a bestseller to me. I have seriously considered writing some shit novel lately just to make money. With a pen name, of course. Throw some vampires and werewolves in there along with lots of sex, and you've got a winner these days.

Thats b/c of shitty baby boomer parents that think we (yes, I'm Gen Y...but just barely) are have to been "winners" and we can do no wrong. We've been given praise and positive reinforcement since 1st grade, so most of us need it as adults....its lame, but the parents set the precedent.

And I don't think its a worth ethic issue...we just don't have a work loyalty to the company usually. We aren't going to work 1 job our entire life and expect a group of shareholders (usually institutional investor and ibanks) to be loyal to us as employees.

sadly that is a major problem, way too many shitty parents out there that really don't know what they are doing. if the parent can barely function in society and the child/children model after the parent then the cycle continues. it takes a HELL of a lot more than just "love" to raise a child in the US today that will develop into a successful adult.

You sound like a bright, hard working guy, doublebase. Cheers, to you.

You baby boomers should start creating jobs so us younger generations can work. You guys had it a lot easier then we do.
The Baby Boomers are finished creating jobs, and also working. They're retiring, now. Baby Boomers, are the 77+ million people born between 1946-1964.

The first Boomer went onto (early) Social Security on Jan 1., 2008.

the first Boomer will go onto Medicare on Jan 1., 2011.

It's going to expensive. It will blow the US budget to pieces. Think the annual deficits and national debt is big now?

Just wait as the pear-shaped boomer demographic of 77+ million people collect SS and Medicare A-B-C-D.

Shit, when you were my age you could work at a grocery store and still buy a single family home. Good luck with that now a days.
Yup. Back then, you could work in a grocery store, have a blue collar or white collar job, move to a decent school district for you kids to go to, buy a home and have a pension for retirement.

    Today? Forget it.

Years ago people had concern for the well being of others. Businesses wanted to make money/grow while having compassion and concern for thier employees and families. Today companies have no morals, scruples, ethics or concern for anyone. Focus is singularly on squeezing every dollar out of your hand and getting it in theirs. Compassion and well being be damned. Notice how any blip dealing with social, environmental or economic whether real or imagined spurs a price increase on everything yet prices never revert back? More money to them...less to you. Also food container size has decreased by 30% over the last 5 years while prices either remained the same or prices went up as well. Again huge profit for companies and less money in your pocket. You now have to buy 2x as much to equal what you needed 5 years ago. This has become a society strictly engrossed in greed. I expect a full blown implosion in less than 20 years.

Right. Hopefully, the govt will come up with some good programs over the next 20 years to help parents properly raise their kids to be good stewards of the planet with a good appreciation of diversity.

My gf's mom is a baby boomer who has been on SS and Medicare for 15+ yrs ....being born to parents who both worked for the federal gov. she thought she could play most of her life and they'd take care of her. So she blew her mind in the 60's, reamed it out in the 70's, filled it with crap in the 80's and suddenly realized it was gone in the 90's....

I'd give you some more rep for this but it won't let me.

You are oh so correct. The shitty part is how many people that are getting squeezed along with the rest of us think this is a good thing. Talk about buying into the company propaganda.

And thats partly to blame as to why we are in this mess....you can't expect to bag groceries and live a middle class lifestyle.

Working unskilled labor and having a pension only burdens the future generations. Even skilled labor and white collar jobs don't give out pensions today. Its just an extended 401K they call a pension and place into market funds that Fidelity or some other fund manager create FOR you that you HAVE to pick from. Pensions are extinct....and quite frankly, they have no place for in our global economy.

The only people who deserve pensions are those who intentionally take low paying jobs for the greater good of the local, national, or global economy. soldiers, underpayed health care workers, charitable position etc. A factory worker in a for profit business or a a gov't worker should not be entitled to a lifetime financial safety net, aka a pension.

Yeah, reality is a pretty fukkin hard pill to swallow isn't it. lol Here's a little breaking news for you. Corporations don't exist to take care of your sorry ass or mine. They don't exist to make sure you and I have a job. They don't exist to make sure that we have insurance and a retirement plan. They exist to earn a profit for their owners and shareholders and continue to stay in business. In order to do that, they have to provide something that your sorry ass and mine are willing to part with our hard earned cabbage for. If the community as a whole benefits, that's gravy. It's not good nor bad, it just is what it is. If you get a smaller container of potato salad for the same price nowadays, it's called inflation. Grab an economics book and become enlightened. It will help you to make sense out of all of this and understand why life is just so damned unfair.

Years ago, businessmen didn't give a fuck about you anymore than they do now. Why do you think labour unions came about? If you don't like it, you can always move to a socialist Utopia like N.Korea or Cuba.

This is the exact thinking dooming America. The disappearance of corporate ethics has brought this about.

Socialism has nothing to do with it. It's just a red herring meant to take your attention from the real matter at hand.
