Will Howard Stern Sign New Deal with iTunes?

Do you hear what we hear? That's the sound of millions of loyal Howard Stern fans saying: Just tell us where to find him in the new year, already!

The shock jock has been in negotiations for a new contract with Sirius XM Radio (his multi-year, $500 million deal expires at year's end), but there still isn't news from the company about renewing the partnership. The silence on a new contract means the network is missing the chance to snap up new subscriptions this holiday season, and many believe it's a surefire signal that Sirius is seriously in trouble, i.e., about to lose their biggest star.

In the meantime, a rumor that Apple could snag the self-proclaimed "King of All Media" in a new $600 million deal has suddenly gained major traction.

But would a raunchy radio star like Stern, famous for his NSFW banter and porn star interviews, be a successful fit within Steve Jobs' clean, conservative corporation? On the iPad (which "Apple wants to keep family friendly," according to The Wrap.com), strict policies already govern how content is presented. How will things change at Apple with Stern on board?

And how many Sirius XM subscribers would jump ship to follow their hero -- currently heard four days a week on the satellite network -- over to a new format of iTunes streams?

With the FCC scrutiny that will follow Stern wherever he lands, if he even departs Sirius at all (an industry analyst at bnet.com suggests the rumor is just a ploy for publicity, or a negotiating tactic generated by the radio star's own team), it's sure to be a gamble, albeit a potentially very lucrative one, for everyone involved.

Jobs and Stern, come on, Job thought the Karma Sutra was too dirty to allow, how would anyone see them doing business together....unless Stern just wants one show so he could do the filthiest show ever and give Jobs an aneurysm......

Karma Sutra? That sounds quite interesting.

After Artie left, I stopped listening, and killed my Siruis a couple months after. The music channels that used to be good, were changed a little, and that was enough to get rid of me.

Jacky sucked ass, but Artie totally made the show.

"Yes, it's a little book detailing how if you don't give the women you hook up with orgasms, then you will come back as a gay man or woman in your next life..." The KAMA Sutra helps avoid all that...

Yeah Arties about the only one I can really laugh at, Stern has always come off as a huge perv and that's about it to me.....

Artie was the man. I gave up on the show shortly after he left as well. I agree that Sirius isn't the same anymore.

Jacky was the affirmative action Ed McMahon, but she was a good sport in a misogynist den of pervs....

Agreed. I was hoping that Artie would come back to explain everything one day before they go off the air. Doesn't look like that's gonna happen though.

Art is certainly fallible, with a drug history and such but all in all a good man who tries to help out here and there. Also has great stories to tell, and some good music/cultural ad-lib. I don't like his stand up much, but a funny guy otherwise.

He is one of the best story tellers.

Prior to Sirius, I was really only a E! channel watcher, but I've listened to enough history, holiday breaks, mastertape theaters, etc. to make the well informed opinion that the Sirius version of Howard is superior than any other five year stretch in his career.

Howard was a lot better years ago. his content and Anger can not be compared to today. He has softened up way to much.

Sirius blows goats now. I canceled about 6 months ago. I was sick and tired of reruns on every channel that I liked along with the most obnoxious commercials ever. I was sick and tired of hearing about debt consolidation and dick pills every 5 minutes.

There are Sirius players that allow you to record/skip the commercials, similar to DVR. I haven't listened to commercials for years, but if even if I did, the show is worth it.

A guy from the town I live in took over for him or one of the cast. I can't remember who it was that he took over for. Anyway, the guys name who took over is Richard Christy. I don't know if he's still on the show.

Ain't it funny how NPR can survive on donations alone, have new interesting material everyday and no commercials, yet advertisement based and pay-to-listen radio plays the same shit over and over with commercial interruptions.....something seems wrong with that to me.....

Yeah, and I keep feeling guilty that I haven't pledged this year. I need to get my ass in gear and do that sometime soon.
