Like it or Not: Mexico is America’s Next Afghanistan

It's time to 'man up' and face a fact that most politicians know, but few care to admit.
    Posted by LaborUnionReport (Profile)

With the exception of, perhaps, Texas governor Rick Perry, no public official wants to publicly admit an obvious fact: The United States of America will likely be forced to invade Mexico. It’s not a matter of if, it’s a matter of when. The question then becomes: What to do with Mexico after we invade it and wipe out the drug cartels (as much as can be). Does the United States merely return Mexico to a nation state of corrupt politicians, failed economic policies, and lawlessness, or do we annex Mexico and turn it into the 51st state?

For many of us, there is a certain false security in believing that, since most of America’s streets are not filled with the murder and mayhem that is going on just South of our borders, we have nothing to worry about. The feeling that most Americans likely have is: Well, it’s their problem, not ours. However, that illusion of security is quickly being eroded with the stories of American police officers being threatened by Mexican drug cartels, of kidnappings and drug murders in Arizona and Texas, of control of certain parts of Arizona and forays into New Mexico and Colorado by drug cartels, of teenagers being turned into hitmen, and American tourists being kidnapped or killed while on vacation in Mexico.

Mexico, with its kidnappings and more than 28,000 murders in the last four years alone, is being terrorized. Now, instead of economic refugees coming across our borders in search of jobs and income, humanitarian refugees are fleeing Mexico in order to stay alive. However, despite all of that, if one thought that only certain parts of Mexico are under the control of the cartels, that illusion was shattered on Tuesday when this map (see upper right) was presented on a heart-breaking post on RedState that shows that almost all of Mexico has been taken over by drug cartels.

Mexican Authorities Are Impotent, Unable to Control the Chaos

One of the cables that the much-maligned Wikileaks exposed was the concern over whether or not the Mexican government is even capable of undertaking the cleaning up of its own nation.

Drug wars in Juarez, Mexico claim 3,000th victim, officials say

The drug wars in Juarez, Mexico, claimed their 3,000th victim this year after two men were gunned down on Tuesday, authorities said.

The deadly milestone brings the death toll to nearly 7,400 over the past three years in the violence-plagued city of 1.3 million people across the border from El Paso, Tex.

"Last year we had 2,656. The year before in 2008 it was around 1,500 and in 2007 we had about 300," Chihuahua state attorney general spokesman Arturo Sandoval told CNN. "Can you imagine?"

Since 2006, when President Felipe Calderon waged war on the country's vicious drug cartels, more than 28,000 people have died in the violence.

Calderon this week touted a successful raid of a party hosted by La Familia, one of Mexico's most powerful gangs.

Police claim they killed the gang's leader, Nazario Moreno, dubbed "The Craziest One" in a shootout though no body has been found.

"What happened those days is that we gave La Familia cartel the biggest blow in its history," Calderon told reporters.

Also this week, the U.S. embassy announced 14 suspects wanted on money laundering, weapons and murder charges, calling it a "victory in our joint fight against organized crime."

Or...we could start doing war the right way. We bomb them all to hell, smoke 'em if you've got 'em, and go home.

Besides, this is Mexico we're talking about. Nothing of value would be lost.

The U.S. had a total of 16,204 murders reported in 2008 alone.

Mexico has an estimated population of 111 million.

The U.S. has almost 311 million.

Just eyeballing those numbers it's three times the pop for the U.S.

Mexico with about 7,000 murders per year so if you multiply that by three you'd hit 21,000 murders to the U.S.'s 16,000.

We have to step up our game!

    AAAAHH!!!! I KEEL YOU!!!!

Seriously, the U.S. can't control its own "drug war" and is already up to their neck in conflict in Afghanistan, right? Invading Mexico? Not happening.

12 Americans are killed by illegals every day, plus 13 killed by drunk Mexican drivers.

thats some of the most crazy radical far fetched sh** i've ever read. well not ever, but its very unlikey to happen.

yeah mexicos got some issues and US or UN, NATO may have to intervine. to an extent and with the co-operation of the mexican government. It goes with out saying they im sure they keep tabs on the situation down there and probably run a lot of co-op black ops stuff.
maybe they dont want to make it public to help the mexican government keep some sort of image of control

No way, Mexico is now what we had to go over to Afghaniland and establish, a drug producing nation that will keep the false drug war alive.....remember prohibition, when alcohol was illegal it became the richest criminal endeavor, well what better way to keep pockets lined than to keep that same game going except with less popular substances....
Coarse edged youth, the irish pendants string from their smiles
not yet plucked as to slacken the seams
and drag down the features of age,
no folds or creases from unkempt wear
    eyes of tranquilty, crystalline-beads
no sign of despair in their hair, nor their hearts
but oh they have yet to be experienced and that makes aging so very worth it...ML circa2012
