Obama calls Eagles owner to congraulate him for signing Vick

This is disgusting,A scum bag liberal president praising someone who murdered dogs and had dog fighting for money but yet this president feels he has to make the news to let the people know he backs vick and praises the owner of the Eagles and thanks him for giving vick a job are you fucking kidding me. This is who you people call your president
. When is obama going to call the steelers and thank them for giving Roethlisberger a second chance? he wont because hes not black. More proof that obama is a racist. For those that dont know his actions in a Georgia nightclub, where a college student accused him of sexually assaulting her.

Michael Vicknotes) has been getting supportfrom all sides during his road to redemption. He's now getting it from the leader of the free world.
NBC's Peter King reports that Barack Obama called Philadelphia Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie earlier this week to congratulate him for giving Vick a second chance after his release from prison. According to King, the president said that released prisoners rarely receive a level playing field and that Vick's story could begin to change that.
Forget your political allegiances or feelings about Michael Vick and take a step back to think about this. The sitting president of the United States went out of his way to publicly praise a man who, 3 1/2 years ago, many thought would never play again in the NFL. Even the most ardent believers in Vick couldn't have fathomed a turn-around like this.
In retrospect it seems obvious that Vick would get a second chance in the NFL, but it wasn't so clear-cut back when he was lying to the commissioner, getting sternly admonished in federal court and serving out a sentence at Leavenworth. We tend to take for granted unbelievable events when they slowly unfold before our eyes. The step-by-step nature of these sorts of tales tend to minimize the shock when taken in over a long process. So though it now seems like it was all pre-destined to work out like this, it wasn't: Vick's rise and fall and rise is a truly stunning tale. He went from star to pariah to inmate to backup to MVP candidate to political prop for the leader of the free world all in a span of a couple years.
For Obama to praise Vick now shows a number of things, namely that uttering the quarterback's name is thought to be a safe political move. He's playing the best football of his life for a playoff team and was the second-leading vote getter for the Pro Bowl. At the moment, he's the model of redemption, someone worthy of praise.
Because, if you think about it, Vick got that "second chance" from Lurie 16 months ago. There was no phone call from the president then. Praising Vick at that time would have been a political third rail. But now that Vick is playing great and most people seem to have either forgiven him or stopped caring about his transgressions, it's a shrewd political move. After what could be termed a rough two years in office, the president is looking for a second chance from the people who have turned against him over the past two years. Supporting a huge star like Vick could help with the president's recent image problems. It may not register much nationally, but it couldn't hurt in Pennsylvania. After all, it's a swing state and 2012 is just around the corner.

I'm going to take an angle on things I usually don't, but I am glad the dude showed some compassion for someone who made a mistake even though I'm not a big Obama fan, at all. There's been more than a few times where I would have loved to have a second chance. I guess forgiveness is just a big sign of weakness in this day and age though...

It's pretty pathetic and stupid that the President of the United States is calling the owner of a football team to congratulate him on signing anyone.

Let alone, a knucklehead like Michael Vick.

Obama has made it so a black man will not be elected president again for another 60 years.

I have some good conspiracy theories as to why a black man, obama , was allowed to run for president at a time when no one would think a black person would have a chance.

I think Mike Vick is playing good football. I have no idea what he is doing personally. But I hope all this adulation from his dramatic success does not serve to cause problems for him. He is still very early in his process of rehabilitating his life, and I hope he has a good support system to keep him on an even track. Stardom and hero worship is part of what got him in trouble in the first place. He was arrogant and selfish into his actions; hopefully he doesn't fall back in the same patterns. Hate to see this Hollywood-like story of vindication end tragically.

raping someone and killing dogs is two seperate things. no reason for Obama to get involved, but honestly I feel this is a non-story. and this is coming from an obama hater

for those on the far right it is, no room to show compassion for a fellow human that made a mistake.

US Presidents have been praising various sports teams and players for decades this is new how?

when my father was a rookie on the Eagles in 1960 his salary was 35K/year now in 2010 it's 500,000K/year to ride the pine for an NFL full back. quite obvious that the US loves professional sports players as is seen by the money the masses waste on sports franchise merchandise which allow them to be paid such ridiculous salaries and cause them to be treated better than just an "average" person.

the message behind the call was twisted to voice the posters distain for the current POTUS.

Actually, I would call animal rights a liberal issue. By far, more liberals hate Vick than conservatives, and that is even despite his race.

But I do give conservatives more shit about the whole lack of forgiveness since it is in the same book that all of their judgment comes from. Religion is like a buffet where you take what you want, but leave the rest. Conservatives are overwhelmingly christian.

Playing golf, shooting hoops, attending basketball and baseball games and now calling the Phillies owner on behalf of a convicted dog killing felon.

It's nice to see Barry has his priorities straight in the middle of 2 wars all while 43 million people are currently on food stamps.

at least he is in touch with the real world... and who is to say a president cannot be a sports fan, doesn't he get any spare time to himself?

GWB used to get drunk and choke on pretzels, but no one seemed to have a problem with that.

Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't realize that you could make blanket statements, but that I could not.

That aside, I think quite a few (but certainly not all) people have no real problem with this particular act, but have a problem with a president that seems more interested in sport, celebrities, talk shows, and just about everything else, rather than his job.

Should he have no personal time? Of course not, but of all the presidents in recent times, he seems the least interested in his job.

Because people just ignored Bush... So yes, nothing better to do.

He only called about Vic because he is famous and rich.

"Oh, Mr. Vick! It's so good you've overcome the challenges of being in prison, and being rich before you went to jail, and having a profession that nets millions to go back to. It's a miracle that you've done so much with so little."

Yes, Obama is correct, he's a shining example of overcoming incredible adversity.

    This.

I would bet under 5-10% of players in the NFL (you can even add the college ranks if you'd like) couldn't give two shits about his past and more like 0% (well, maybe Kevin Kolb, more out of being bitter than anything else) when it comes to the Eagles.

DeSean Jackson is going to complain about Vick when he'll be the reason he cashes in on his next paycheck? Not to mention, nobody gives a shit about his crime. He shouldn't have gone to jail for two years. The fact that people have more compassion for an animal than a human is flawed thinking.
