How come it seems that on a weekly basis the law makers are coming up with new laws ? It's like every year we have less control over how we live out lives. Why do they feel the need to keep coming up with new laws.
I don't think someone should be forced to wear a seatbelt if they dont want to. It does save lives but if an adult doesn't want to wear one then why should he have to ?
I'm watching the news right now and in canada, they are proposing a law that makes it illegal to smoke in a car with occupants less than 16 yrs old. I agree smoking is horrible for your health but to pass a law telling people when or where they can smoke. If cigarettes are that bad then why not just ban the cigarette ?

Control of our behavior is just an excuse. All these well meaning (on the surface) laws come with fines. Control of our money is the real goal. Tax hikes are wildly uppopular, fines are easier to hide.

Serious suggestion here - call your state representative's office, "Hi, this is ROID, I am Representative so and so's constituent, and we have never met. I would like to take him to lunch and introduce myself."
Get to know people like that, make a new friend, and you will be shocked at the results. You can bring up the seatbelt thing, or just become acquainted.
Few people do this, thinking it is somebody else's responsibility or in somebody else's control. Not in this country. It is up to you.

some laws make more sense than others. in terms of operating a motor vehicle there are many laws most of them to either increase public safety or decrease traffic accidents, etc. which helps to keep insurance premiums lower. maybe there should be some sort of waiver, so if you are in an accident or cause one were seat belts could have prevented then the person has to incur the costs of that accident.
In a perfect world the gov would be able to force big tobacco to remove the carcinogens from their products or if not then make them illegal. but as you know EVERYTHING in the US is about money and the tobacco lobbyists are some of the most powerful in D.C
I train differently than most, my beef is with gravity the weights on the bar are just the medium...Thanks to Wall Street your slice of the American Pie has been reduced to a crumb.

Driving is a priviledge not a right. That is why they control it.

Yes, I truly do believe it. The post was not written as a joke. I used to have the same attitude, until I decided to go out and change a few things that were extremely important to me. Experience has taught me that, yes, citizens actually have a say in most everything, that is, at least the ones who take the time to make the effort - kind of like training, you will get out of it what you put into it.

Our laws are pretty ridiculous, I know someone who got 7 years for a personal amount of drugs that had no prior record. But today I saw someone who had a previous record for raping his daughter get sentenced about the same amount of time for, guess what, raping his daughter again. And the only reason it was that long was because there was 3 statutory cases against him .... I was in court for a victimless crime that's how I saw this just to clarify. I just don't see why that guy needs to get out of prison... or live, and it's so easy to get 10 years for some drugs.
