I agree. I hate itunes. I just had to redo two of my ipods and I couldn't get the music back that I paid for from i tunes, so now I just buy CD's, or borrow them and rip them to the ipod.

I wish I could be of more assistance.

Just a thought though, are you running this off more than one PC, and have you downloaded the most recent version of itunes for all said PC's?

But if you need to de-authorize a computer you just got to the top section where it says file, edit, view, etc. Go all the way over the the one that says store and click on it. You'll see a drop and drag menu that has authorize and de authorize options on it.

When you plug in your ipod. on the left under "devices" should be the ipod. Just click music under that and you can play the songs right off your ipod and don't have to deal with the store.

You know what I hate, Cars! They are too damn complicated, that is why I went back to the horse drawn buggy.

On a serious note, contact Apple and explain to them you have 3 apple products and would like for them to reset your device authorizations. It is not uncommon to authorization more than 5 devices especially when you consider that your computer uses up one just by installing itunes on it.

Right on. I was thinking I would need to do that. I just hate calling tech support. Most times, I can't understand a fricken word they are saying to my, let alone being put on hold forever.

Did you have a work computer before you quit? Maybe your laptop was another?

I've used my work computer, laptop, netbook & home ofc comp and have gotten the same 5 authorized message and then I remembered that one time I Updated Itunes and when I restarted the program it asked me to Authorize the computer for a device I'd had for over a year and had been Authorized. It's probably Itunes fault.....I say chuck it and find a better alternative....

thats just a foolish comparison. if im going to buy music, i want the rights to put it on several ipods, my iphone, and do whatever i please with it. i tunes makes that very difficult.

i understand its there to prevent piracy, but its annoying for us that also follow the rules

She can't. When you activate a device, iTunes records a fingerprint of that device's hardware. You can only activate 5 different devices, unless you call them, and request they reset your authorization history or give you more activation slots. Audible has the same rule, and I have called them and requested they give me more than 5 devices to activate since I had 3 PC's and 4 portable devices with content. They were very nice about it, and did it with no issues.

It is a perfect comparison. You have the right to put your purchased digital content on any device or medium you choose. You have the ability to put any content on any medium you choose. The only thing holding you back is technical ability.

Fool around with you gadgets and learn how they work. They are far more powerful than antiquated technologies like CDs. Once you figure out how use digital content, CDs become laughably obsolete.

im thinking we have a mis communication. when i buy cd's, i upload them to my itunes and i have a digital copy. that copy can be transferred to an external drive, or any type of device.

when you buy from itunes its a digital copy, but there are certain stipulations on the copy itself(correct me if im wrong here). it was my understanding that those copies had to be connected to itunes, or they could expire, or if you put them on a different pc, they became obsolete.

Myself, my son and daughter got an Ipod touch for Christmas and my gf got an Ipad. I hate Itunes. It is a freakin hassle to create accounts and use multiple Ipods on different computers.

It's complicated. Legally, you purchased the right to use someone else's intellectual property. You do not own the intellectual property, and neither does Apple. When you buy off of itunes, you are buying the right to use the content however you like except with certain stipulations with the primary one being that you will not share the content with someone who hasn't also purchased the right to use it. Legally, Apple has no authority to tell you how you can use your content.

They try very hard to force you into doing things their way to lock you into their way of doing things so you will have to purchase their products. That is why most pure techies hate Apple and Steve Jobs. But still, even Apple allows you to manage your content to an extent. It is not true that if you put your itunes music on a different device or computer, you can't listen to it. You simply have to activate that device or computer. By default, Apple allows you to activate 5 different computers or devices.

But, with a little bit of help from google and a bit of tinkering, you can unlock your content. Once you have your content unlocked, you can manage it however you like. I love the ability to download a book at work which then goes into my audible library and within seconds is available on my phone, home theater DLNA media server, and my car radio.

Holy shit at the power of that. It is as if with one click, my content is magically transported to every device that I would want to listen on or watch with. I love the ability to have on demand content. It makes the concept of going to a book and mortar store to buy a CD seem as outdated as pulling a horse drawn buggy down i-55. Oh, and the part that gives me a boner the most, the content is much cheaper in digital form than with buying a physical copy.

CDs are going away just like cassette tapes and the 8-track. Those who refuse to adapt will get left behind. Trust me, you don't want to end up like those people who refuse to embrace advancing technologies.

Use an alternative. I use winamp to load my ipod. There is a plugin that allows you to grab a folder right out of your "My Documents" music folder, which loads that folder of music onto your ipod and even creates a playlist for it.

    Check the link below...

About iTunes Store authorization and deauthorization

You can only deauthorize a computer from that same computer. If you have upgraded memeory or updated windows products it is not concidered the same computer. If this is the case you will have to deauthprize all 5 computers and then authorize the computers that you want. It suck but this is the only way to do it. I had to do this because I had 2 computers blow up and my work laptop was stolen. Let me know if you have any more questions or need more help.

I am not the biggest fan of itunes but as long as you work within the system it is fairly easy.

i wrote a reply, but something happened and fuck

basically though, i do consider myself tech savvy.. however im also lazy(path of least resistance) and cheap. cd's now are dirt cheap, especially used ones(amazon).. and i can get them for less per song than if i paid for a download.

if you saw some of the shit i have as far as entertainment, and especially the tools i get to use in the military, maybe you wouldnt assume that im a tech tard

    FYI....
Ok, I finally got pissed enough to call Apple. How easy it was to de~authorize all computers. Now I really feel like a tard. When in I tunes, click on the store tab and hit de~authorize all computers. Ya, that simple. I can finally hear and listen to all the music I purchased. I took me this long to call, how sad
