Americans Say Reagan Is the Greatest U.S. President

Lincoln and Clinton next on the list; Washington fifth
    by Frank Newport
PRINCETON, NJ -- Ahead of Presidents Day 2011, Americans are most likely to say Ronald Reagan was the nation's greatest president -- slightly ahead of Abraham Lincoln and Bill Clinton. Reagan, Lincoln, or John F. Kennedy has been at the top of this "greatest president" list each time this question has been asked in eight surveys over the last 12 years.

I don't see how Washington or Lincoln wouldn't be anything but #1 and #2...Heck even Jefferson is better than any of our modern era presidents

Very true. I'm sure these people who voted know very little about history nor do they not understand that what a President does today will have a negative effect on the future even though it looked good at the present time.
Reagan falls in that category, he was one of my favorites at one time.

Washington, Lincoln, Adams, Jefferson, are all for sure way ahead of anyone recently. Truman, Teddy Rosevelt are all ahead of Reagan in my mind. and I'm a guy who likes Reagan. I just don't consider him a #1 kind of guy

What's a bit silly about these polls is that....

Only 2, of the Presidents listed are from the 1800s.

Are these people Presidential scholars, that answered this poll?

Have they done objective research on all 43 Presidents, dating back to George Washington?

Andrew Jackson....a great man....he fought against the banks and won. His least worlds before dying (to paraphrase were). "I beat the banks."

Surely, Andrew Jackson would be rolling in his grave is he knew what the banks and Wall St. have done to the this country.

As for Reagan. He spend money on an unprecedented scale. He talked about small government, but he never practiced it. Shame on him.

Just b/c he had a great fiscal vision and monetary understanding doesn't make this mass murdering man a "great" president. He perpetuated genocide and almost systematically exterminated an ethnicity.

    just sayin

^^ Thanks for the FYI, Invanry.

As I stated about other not knowing, I admit I have studied his evil doings.

I am not qualified to say which one is best, nor even "good."

Washington, Lincoln, Adams, Jefferson should be the top 4 but you cant compare modern era presidents to the old timers.

Reagan had a charm, and a lot of people liked him, but many people saw through the facade. Always got the felling he was acting when speaking in public, and he was a pretty lousy actor.

Funny, if you reflect on his days as president, you'll find that the TV had the highest amount of teen and gang violence(during his reign of terror). I remember when he came on TV and told the Americans that we(this meaning him) was just a button away. Well, Freakin 911 is been and gone, and the so the thought of the freakin "Button" was and is "Bull shit" just like most of those that make this claim of him being "Greatest"

Q: Where is the long term affect for our economics? If you wish to use "GREATEST"

Unreal, what took the concensus... Aliens?

The fact that Jimmy Carter is in the top 30 completely discredits that survey.
