    I used to be a data analyst working in R&D in telecommunications but company's stopped investing in that technology about a decade ago. since I have reverted back to working on voice/data hardware

    im a network engineer responsible for voice/data communications (telco/lan/wan) at a small company that has maybe 20 offices or so.

    it's a very challenging job because everything takes well thought out planning and a lot of team members on the same page to get it all right. the time lines we have to go by are rarely adhered to by management, making everything seem like complete chaos during implementation. this chaos is why i absolutely love it there

    Is it busy year round, or any season in particular?

    Any bank I've ever worked with has been ridiculously tight with cash, but that's their job- to hang onto it forever no matter what haha

    Thinking about working in a core mental health field. Growth industry, and you can hang out your own shingle. The field appeals to me for many reasons. I'd like to work with families dealing with addiction issues.

    If I had my way, I'd be an Alaskan bush pilot in the summer and have a Caribbean dive operation the other months of the year.

    That said, I'm a small business owner now and life is fantastic.

    I worked in one of the few remaining steel mills in the Ohio Valley. Worked there for 5 years and got laid off in '09. Since I didn't want to worry about future layoffs I decided to go back to school. 2 years from now I will have a bachelors in mechanical engineering. School sucks when you take 12 years off between highschool to the present but I deserve it since I acted like an immature alcoholic drug addict in my late teens. If I only knew then what I know now. Saddest thing in life is wasted youth.

    I worked in the mortgage business from about 1995-2007 my license isn't active anymore. I just did it for the extra income and to make sure friends didn't get screwed, the work itself couldn't be any less challenging it's basic math. I still follow the industry and keep up with the new laws, programs, etc.

    [QUOTE=Big Smoothy;2192702]Education.

    Be careful what you wish for. I've worked in public education for many years. Things are a real mess right now, and quickly getting worse. Too many people in power that don't know their ass from their elbow.
