U.S. says 4 Americans killed by pirates on hijacked yacht
Update at 9:54 a.m. ET: CNN reports that the U.S. military arrested 15 pirates.
Update at 9:35 a.m. ET: CNN reports that two pirates were killed in the incident.
Update at 9:24 am. ET: The U.S. says four Americans hijacked on a yacht off Oman last week have been killed by pirates, the Associated Press report.
Earlier posting: Four Americans who were aboard a Yacht hijacked by pirates off Oman are dead, according CBS News, CNN and NBC.
CBS reports that a as it headed for Somali seized the vessel after hearing gunshots, CBS News reports.
All 4 Americans were dead, killed apparently by their captors.
CBS reports that more some of the dozen pirates on board the craft were dead and some were captured.
On board were Jean and Scot Adam from California and Phyllis MacKay and Bob Riggle from Washington state.
The Americans were sailing the world on a Christian mission to distribute bibles, ABC News reports.

Why in the world would four Americans sail off the east coast of Africa without at least four rifles and enough ammunition to kill 15 pirates before they can get within RPG range? I don't get it.

The whole Indian Ocean up around Africa, Oman, the Maritius Islands, huge amount of piracy in the Malaccan Straits....You also have to worry about them in the Caribbean and off Mexico and South America even in the Mediterranean...I wouldn't be surprised if there weren't one or 2 in the Great Lakes region each year....
