Gov't shutdown averted as House votes $4B cuts

THIS IS THE START OF MANY MORE CUTS THAT THE LIBERALS WILL HAVE TO DO,LETS NOT FORGET THOSE 24 DEMOCRATS SISSYS THAT LEFT TO GO HIDE

The House passed emergency short-term legislation Tuesday to cut federal spending by $4 billion and avert a government shutdown. SENATE DEMOCRATS agreed to follow suit, handing Republicans an early victory in their drive to rein in government.

Please show were the actual cuts are? It's not a "true" budget cut at all they are only shifting funds, this is what the fed gov always does...

Neither side is interested in or willing to truly cut spending. All the "cuts" are just political rhetoric and slight of hand money shifting.

This was so they all didn't look like they were getting paid for nothing... Republicans and the Tea Party aren't doing a good selling job on this and they better start playing some damn hardball that is real. Either show through FACTS you are right, instead of just talking, so the public can see and force Dems to get their damn act together and cut up the credit card. I truly believe that the dems are 100% in denial about the problem and want a reason to yet again blame it on the right. This has nothing to do with what is best for America, it is all about control and future election victories. There is a REAL EASY solution to this problem, term limits so people can grow some FUCKING BALLS! House should be 2, MAYBE 3 terms and the senate 2 at the most. Senate requires a lot more expertise and they take on much more responsibility than the house so standards SHOULD be higher to get elected, then again they left Ted Kennedy's ass in there for 40 years so we know that is completely out the window. But seriously, if you take the incentive away to serve forever, people will fight the good fight more readily or be out in no time.

As LAM stated are these "cuts" or is it shifting of money around, reducing increases, dubious accounting, or who knows what?

    And $4 billion?

This is a drop in the bucket. A joke.

This just goes to show the cutting the major costs such as Social Security, Medicare and the $750+ billion for "defense" is not even been done.

Oh yeah, I think the gov stated it was, or wanted to, cut about $15 billion per year from the annual $750 billion dollar pentagon budget over the next 5 years.

A drop in the bucket. Laughable.
It's an accurate statement that our current spending will not be increasing the debt We've stopped spending money that we don't have.

-- Jack Lew, then director of the Office of Management and Budget, in Feb. 16, 2011 testimony before the Senate Budget Committee.

If you're not willing to start somewhere quit your bitching. It's "only" $4 billion, but it's a start. Right?

but it's not a start at all, it's a lateral move the taking from the left to give to the right isn't a budget cut, its simply shifting funds from one agency or program to another...

besides those aren't the types of budget cuts that we need to target for long term deficit control if there is to ever be such a thing. 50% of the deficit comes from the cost of serving loans..so basically we need to stop borrowing money for things that have absolutely no return on that investment such as wars, etc.

I know that. I was just trying to get across the point that even a small reduction in spending is a step in the right direction. It isn't an actual reduction, but when there actually IS a reduction, no matter how small, it's a beginning.

But if we need to cut spending why not let the bush tax cuts expire? That way we can have more money in? Or does the middle and lower class the only ones that need to take on the burdon? Take it from the teachers so the richest can keep theres thats common sense. right?
