welfare in the US dates back to the 1800's with the british poor laws but it goes back even further to the romans. every "society" in history has had some system of taking care of the disabled, elderly, etc.

the "immigrants" that you speak of didn't want to come here but they didn't have a choice as there are no jobs in their country. manufacturing in their home country was shipped overseas and the service sector market is flooded and inflation is very high. it's one of the effects of "globalization" and is exactly the same thing that is going on right now in the US. decades ago small low cost items used to be made in the US and Mexico but now everything is made in China. look only to mexico to see what is in store for the US

I don't think I agree with that statement. Keep in mind that the early immigrants to the US came from first world countries. The current crop comes from third world countries.

There's a huge difference in the caliber of the immigrants from back then versus now.

Bah! Too much energy is wasted bickering over flags and nationalism. The Americans bitching about some immigrant touting their mother country's flag is guilty of the same pettiness.

Also, you can't even begin to compare 1900s immigrants to modern day immigrants. The early immigrants got here at the start of the American industrial complex. If you weren't a halfwit, you could play a huge part in the machinery of our economy at that time. Sure, you might only be a dock worker, or a factory slave, but you would be doing side by side with other natural born Americans.

Today, America is a service based economy with a lot of high-tech jobs. No third world immigrant is going to be working for a corporation in the mail room with a bunch of other white guys, and they will never feel like they are truly part of America. Add to that the constant hate mongering towards immigrants, and I see why the act the way they do. Shit, I would do the same if I were in their situation. You can't expect an immigrant to me proud of a country that hates them.

I agree with everyone for the most part including LAM... and this is shocking to me. We have a welfare system and policies that undermine our republic and dangles a carrot for other countries citizens to come over in no small part from the lack of enforcement of the laws. Within the last decade, it has illegal immigration is a hot-button topic because the malignant tumor has turned cancerous for the country. Most illegal immigrants have a very poor track record for skill-sets and offer little in the way of bettering our society - we already have enough idiots to fill the void and them taking job other people don't want has always been the big excuse. Way back when, one of the requirements to become a citizen was to have a valid skillset - so that you not only could contribute to our society, but also not be a deadbeat. On top of this, the majority feed off our economy in many various ways and don't put back in. There are givers and takers in our society and they are overwhelmingly a taker group - again, we have an overabundance of those already.

Like many issues plaguing this country, it is a 'shit or get off the pot' moment to fix the issue - and it doesn't look good for us to do a damned thing because anyone that proposes what NEEDS to be done are deemed meanie butts that eat children and read mein kampf.

Personally, I have turned into a pretty selfish bastard as of late. I don't give a flying fuck about immigrants, and wouldn't mind one bit if a massive search and remove campaign took place. As started before, third world immigrants have no place here. Our economy demands a certain amount of skilled workers, or at least it did until our economy went down the shitter which, by the way, was done completely by red blooded Americans. The biggest problems I face are all due to William the banker, and not Sanchez the gardener.

The early immigrants came from countries that had many positive attributes. The current crop comes mainly from Mexico. A place whose culture is so bad, that it has resulted in a country where even Mexicans don't want to live. So they come here and bring that shitty culture with them.

back in the colonial days when people were 86'ed from the UK they got "sent to the America's", it was basically a death sentence. many of the original immigrants to the US were far from the cream of the crop.

A lot of early immigrants came over to get physically away from England and to find riches. The second big immigrant rush, during the 1900s, consisted of people looking for a better life.

Which, of course, you'll argue is what the Mexicans are doing. So I'll refer you back to my original statement that almost all of the earlier immigrants game from first world countries, and not third world shit holes like Mexico.

Even the worst of first world citizens are better than most of the rest of the world. Look at Australia. Founded as a penal colony, it's now the 13th largest economy on the planet and known for it's good people.

I don't mind immigration.
I want a free society where it doesn't matter what color,race or country you are from we are all one people.
If you have money or skills to provide for yourself and family.
No criminal history of violent crime and a productive member of society then welcome aboard.

What i don't tolerate is the scumbags who come in seeking help and a new life and protesting against our ways and culture.You may have heard of the Minority of Muslims in Britain who preach hate and burn Poppies on remembrance day and shout hate at our troops who returned from Iraq/Afghanistan or mock our Dead.

I also don't understand how our countries can let criminals in for the sake of their human rights.....
So far 2 woman have been brutality Raped in my Area by Eastern Europeans who all had a history of rape and murder, one woman was raped tortured then brutally killed.

It wasn't the Nobles. They had their lives made already, it was the poorer class of people mostly who came over. Don't be an idiot.
I'm not saying the mexicans are any better or worse...

In fact, most coming from mexico are probably worse because they have zero education/skills, but we know that because we're here now.

I don't know really know the credentials of the thousands and thousands of nameless faces who came here, over a hundred years ago. So I wouldn't speculate about that, and I don't know why you would either.

Truthfully, the best smartest/educated/skilled workers came over about the time of WW1-WW2. Called Brain Drain.
