Armed Beauty Queen Fatally Shoots Intruder in Florida Home Invasion
    By Cristina Corbin

Florida beauty queen Meghan Brown, right, shot and killed an intruder with her pink .38-caliber handgun during a home invasion March 12 (FoxNews.com).

When a burly ex-convict forced his way into a posh Florida home last week, he had no idea what awaited him -- a 25-year-old beauty queen with a pink .38-caliber handgun.

Meghan Brown, a former Florida pageant queen, shot and killed 42-year-old Albert Franklin Hill during a home invasion March 12 at the 2,732-square-foot house she shares with her fiance in Tierra Verde, Fla.

Hill barged into the home at around 3 a.m. after Brown responded to a knock at the front door, according to a police report. He allegedly grabbed the 110-pound Brown around her nose and mouth and dragged her to an upstairs bedroom.

The woman’s fiance, Robert Planthaber, said in an interview that he was quickly awakened by the altercation and ran to Brown’s side.

"I attacked him and took a severe beating to the head," Planthaber told FoxNews.com. "But I got him off of her long enough for her to scramble to the room where she keeps her pink .38 special.”

Police say ex-convict Albert Franklin Hill, 42, forced his way into the Tierra Verde home where he was shot and killed by Brown, a former Florida beauty queen.

Police say ex-convict Albert Franklin Hill, 42, forced his way into the Tierra Verde home where he was shot and killed by Brown, a former Florida beauty queen.

Brown, who reigned as the 2009 Miss Tierra Verde, snatched her gun from a nearby bedroom and shot the suspect several times – hitting him in the chest, groin, thigh and back, her fiance said. Hill was pronounced dead at the scene.

Panthaber, a 42-year-old arborist, said he believes he and his fiancee were targeted because of their wealth. He claimed a pizza delivery man and possible accomplice staked out the home for three months before Hill attempted to burglarize it.

“We live in a very prominent area and my fiancee wears a $60,000 engagement ring,” he said. “The pizza man knew we had money because sometimes we needed change for a $100 bill when he came to deliver pizza.”

Hill had a criminal record stretching back nearly three decades -- including arrests for burglary, battery, drug possession and grand theft. He reportedly served a 13-year prison term in 1987 and was released in September after serving a fourth term behind bars.

Detectives with the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Robbery/Homicide Unit are still investigating the crime but believe the motive was robbery, according to local press reports. They say they haven’t yet determined the relationship, if any, Hill had with the couple. A police report said the ex-convict demanded money before the altercation between Hill and Panthaber ensued.

Panthaber, meanwhile, said he and his fiancee are lucky to be alive. He said he purchased the pink handgun for Brown last Christmas and that the two had gone to target practice together.

“She was not a good shot at the range,” he quipped.

I would have no issues or hesitation killing anyone that broke into my house, sometimes I wish someone would just so could I do it.

Good for her, a prime example of why gun control is not a good idea. It keeps guns out of citizens hands to defend themselves. Lets face it the criminals are criminals and will get hand guns weather they are legal or not.

I bet from now on neither of them will answer a knock at the door at 3am without being armed... I feel for her... even though she was in the right absolutely she'll be haunted by the fact she killed a man, fucking pieces of shit whether they get away or not cause so much suffering...

And I swear if one of that Hill turds relatives attempts a lawsuit I might have to go on a hunting trip to Florida....

Good job getting a baddy pushing up daisies. Here in Michigan you can carry a firearm concealed or openly in your home and on your property without a CPL. With the makeup of the neighborhood changing lately it's about time for me to start doing that. Get a box of Hornady hollowpoints so the bullets stop where they should, in the bad guy's body.

Although a Serbu Super Shorty would be mighty nice for home defense as well.

4 terms? I blame the Prison System. This man is just a product of his biology and environment. It's good that she defended herself and that it turned out the way it did compared to turning out one of the innocents being hurt/dead.
But still, the negative side of this is that if he has served 4 terms by the time he was 41, he probably did his first when he was still a teenager.
And from then on, he only knew the horror of what he saw in the pin.
    God bless.

The legal system did fail. Little Ms Beauty queen certainly did not!

I live in FL Am licenced to carry, # 1 carry gun snub 357 S&W Scanduim 11 OZ empty. Seconday Kimber ultra CDP 3.5" 40 cal 23 oz empty.
Both with hollow points. If you have to shoot someone you have to get it done the first time.

I own 2 .45's One custom made for bulleye shooting scoped with red dot built by Ed Masaki on a Caspian frameset. Off a ransom rest it will shoot 10 shot groups 1 7/16 inces center to center @ 50 Yards. The other .45 is a Kimber target II 45 it will shoot about 3.5 inch groups @ 50 yards
I also have a .38 wad gun converted from a 38 super built Clark when he was in Shreveport LA. And a .22 Pardini. all set up for bullsyey shooting.
I used to shoot a lot of 2700 matches.

Kimber makes a pretty good gun, if you are looking into a real target gun though I wouldn't buy a Kimber because the use lightly hardened parts and gun smiths woud rather work on better steel. I own 2 Kimbers If you are looking for a good defense gun they are good. Lots of options out there though. Some of the new Polymer framed .45's are really nice for carry guns. I used to think my 23 oz Kimber was light until I started carrying the Scandium snubby .357

I love 1911's. I have a Ed Brown Custom and a Springfield TRP. (the kimber parts you are refering to are the MIM parts that Kimber uses - hammer, sear, firing pin stop, slide stop, grip safety, thumb safety, disconnector(?), swartz safety parts........ Most guns use MIM parts just not usually 1911's so no need to fear) I carry a HK USP compact 9mm, and a HK p2000sk. I love my HK's. (as my username implies LOL) There are plenty of great options for carry and home defence weapons out there. (I just bought a used glock 19 gen 3 for my mother for only $350)
1911s are awesome but keep in mind that they can be picky with ammo and mags. (only buy the best of both - I only run Wilson Combat mags myself)

All you guys hoping for someone to break into your house, I seriously hope you don't ever have to go through that. My step-father was a bail-bondsman, he carried 2 guns on him, one in his ankle and one in his shoulder holster. He had several dozen guns in his house in the secret compartments behind the bookshelves, plus he had them in several drawers around the house. He was on the phone one night and heard a noise down stairs. Even with his pistol handy he got hit by a bat by a hidden intruder, knocked unconcious and then the 2 sleaze bags burned down the house thinking they killed him. He wasn't dead though, but he died from smoke inhalation.

I have no desire to have to shoot someone but if somebody was out to harm me or my family I would have no hesitation or remorse either. I believe in being armed and if I ever need to use it then it is there. (better to have and not need....and all that) I enjoy shooting sports (IDPA), hunting, and collecting guns. Good for that girl and her fiance needs to grow a pair and learn how to handle things himself.
    I love living in Florida.
