Thinking of starting a new career

Ok friends I currently own a small construction company and i think im to the point where i wanna maybe try a second career. Ive always wanted to be a trainer. So im just wondering what type of certs i should get and what to expect....I live by the beach and the demand is good i guess but all the ads are for the health club type gyms which is fine by me. im also wondering about potental income. thanks guys and i look forward to hearing everything you guys sand gals think. alot of the ads say 17 to 20 and hr plus comission, it that normal? and what is the average hr week?

I don't have the answer to your question, but you can find out what certs are recommended by doing a search in this and the training forums. It's come up a few times.
So many cries of inequality stem from one of group
of people doing little or nothing and then bitching
about another group that actually does something
    to improve their lives.

I would think that any good personal trainer would also be strong on teaching nutrition. It's a way to increase the amount you charge.

It's the only way to guarantee results.

Just do all your clients a favor, take a class as in a classroom, some BS online certification may be "legit" but it doesn't carry much weight. Look for the certification body that has the most difficult and stringent curriculum, that is what you want. The easiest is not for someone you would want to train with or take advice from. As for nutrition, you may not be able to get your degree in nutrition easily but look into anything that will give you more knowledge and read some of the better books out there; Gary Taubes is a start.

I would look into getting some certs and think about getting into it part-time first. I guess it really depends on the personality of the person but I found working as a PT dreadful, but that's because I was used to working with athletes who didn't need to be pushed they only needed to be told what to do.
I train differently than most, my beef is with gravity the weights on the bar are just the medium...Thanks to Wall Street your slice of the American Pie has been reduced to a crumb.

Hm. There's a place for energy efficiency, I'm not sure the escort gig is it.

You own a small construction company? Thats kickass man, good for you. I will own a landscaping business one day (i am the foreman there now) and testing to be a firefighter SOON. Anyways, if you want to be a trainer then be a trainer. If you own a business now then you are obviously a hard working dude so I faith in you.

been there...not a good idea if you like or love to drink like I do. a bunch of my buddys who were all roofers and I bought a bar about 19 years ago. we had a lot of fun added on some killer decks but we broke even in the long runb. we drank up all the profits.

be a physical therapist, they seem to never run out of work and in high demand in any city you'd like to live in.....
Coarse edged youth, the irish pendants string from their smiles
not yet plucked as to slacken the seams
and drag down the features of age,
no folds or creases from unkempt wear
    eyes of tranquilty, crystalline-beads
no sign of despair in their hair, nor their hearts
but oh they have yet to be experienced and that makes aging so very worth it...ML circa2012

i think we are all in the same boat together right now . i am fortunate right now cuz there is only one other concrete guy on the island where i live and he has a bunch of non english speaking folks working for him and there work is shit so i get alot of his clients . the big money isnt coming in quite as well and i have thought alot about the same things as you . this is a good thing i believe . good luck . we are a breed apart with the dedication we put into our bodys . with that kind of dedication we succeed in all that we do . keep that in mind as you chase the next endeavor .
