    Finally, some sensible healthcare ideas...

I have long believed that the way to modify behavior in this day and age is by hitting the ole pocketbook. I think this idea is in the right direction, but think the fees should be much higher.

    Fuck yeah!

I don't think there should be some complex chart for figuring out penalties for health care prices, but it should take into account certain things.

So hell yes, obese people should pay more. And smokers, too.

First the anti-illegals laws and now this. God I love Arizona.
So many cries of inequality stem from one of group
of people doing little or nothing and then bitching
about another group that actually does something
    to improve their lives.

Another good idea out of AZ. If your habits are going to cost the tax payers more, then it makes sense to pay more. Those right-wing hate mongers in AZ are setting some good precedents these days.

I wonder if their medicaid will pay for the urine cotitine test to assess for smoking, weighing the patient is objective enough but do the docs just take it at face value if the patient says he quit?

I gave 1000 dollars to two employees to quit smoking but they had to get the urine cotitine test randomly for 5 years or else they refunded the money. Both quit. ( they also could not be around second hand smoke).

i agree but the caveat is they don't use the 12 dollar cheap drug screen.

The cheap standard drug test does not detect methadone, fentanyl, hydromorphone and buprenorphine, clonezepam, alprazolam and lorezepam ( only oxazepam, diazepam and nordazepam) and so it will miss true abusers. And, it has too many false positives so taking decongestants, eating muffins with poppy , prilosec ( can cause false postive for marijuana), psuedofed, and dextromethorphan in cold remedies all cause false postiives. I doubt he wants to use $120-$300 dollar immunoassays I use as a physician where they confirm the immunoassay with gas chromatography ( yes I am also a lab director so I know these things.)

I told a pregnant woman to take pseudofed since it is safe in pregnancy not knowing she would have a random urine drug screen at work three days later. Poor thing was fired for testing positive for amphetamines on the cheap assay.

I am 100% on this, the commerce clause protects public workers per the supreme court if memory serves me right from HS law class, so that may be a tough one but at the state level it should not be an issue. Seriously, you would lose half of the public school workers if you drug test according to my friend that was a HS English teacher. Still a good idea though!!!

I'm all for people spunging off the system being drug tested, but anyone working for a living can put whatever the hell they want in their body as long as it doesn't affect their work, IMO.

that I'm not on board with. it's hypocrisy to allow one to go home and drink a case of beer but penalize another for going home and smoking a joint. both are using drugs, marijuana being scheduled is purely politics.
