Beaten Giants fan put back in coma

Beaten Giants fan put back in coma

    By Jason Hanna, CNN
    UPDATED: 05:49 AM EDT 04.18.11

A San Francisco Giants fan who was beaten outside the Los Angeles Dodgers' stadium late last month was put back in a medically induced coma during the weekend after suffering seizures, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Bryan Stow, 42, remained in critical condition Sunday morning at the Los Angeles County-University of Southern California Medical Center, spokeswoman Rosa Saca said.

"Due to recurrence of seizures (Saturday) morning, it was necessary to put him back on a medically induced coma to help reduce the seizure activity," Saca said in an e-mailed statement. "He will continue to be (monitored) closely for the next few days to see when it is medically indicated to begin reducing the medications again."

Family members said doctors had lowered Stow's sedation earlier in the week after putting him in a medically induced coma after the attack.

Authorities said Stow suffered severe head injuries in an unprovoked beating in a parking lot outside Dodger Stadium after a March 31 Dodgers-Giants baseball game, the season opener for both teams. Two men allegedly approached him in the parking lot and began kicking and punching him while yelling profanities about the Giants, Los Angeles Police detective Jose Carrillo said.

The attackers fled in a light-colored, four-door car driven by a woman with a young boy inside, authorities said. Police released composite sketches of the suspects, who they said were from 18 to 25 years old.

Officials are offering a $100,000 reward for information leading to arrests and convictions.

Stow, a father of two, is a paramedic who traveled from Santa Cruz, California, to make his first-ever visit to Dodgers Stadium. He went to the game with friends in celebration of the Giants' World Series victory last season, his cousin, John Stow, has said.

On a website launched in part to provide updates on Stow's condition, www.support4bryanstow.com > Home, his family wrote Saturday night that he is "resting under heavy sedation after suffering seizures this morning."

"The weekend has brought family to visit and they have been sharing stories of support from all over the country & world," the family's post said. "We are amazed, humbled, and so blessed.

    From the Stow website:

From our family: On behalf of Bryan, we, his family, would like to thank everyone for the outpouring of love, prayers and support.

This is what helps us get through this difficult time. We can't wait for Bryan to wake up so he can see for himself just how much people love him, whether they are family, friends or strangers.

This website was created for all of his supporters to be updated directly by his family on his progress, upcoming fundraisers and their outcome, and photos.

On this site, you will be able to find direct links to donate or purchase items. All monies raised will be deposited into one account to ensure that Bryan's medical bills, longterm care (if needed), and his children will be taken care of. Keep the prayers coming and again....thank you, from the bottom of our hearts.

    Dave, Ann, Erin & Bonnie

You'd think you could go to a ball game and make it home in one piece.

Are we becoming a third world nation. This shit I thought only happens at soccer games in South America. Baseball is considered are nations past time and its a shame that you have to risk your life going to the ballpark. I'm a Yankees fan, I visited Fenway park in Boston I have to say even though we are big rivals I was welcomed by the Boston fans I sat near and was treated with respect. I hope Bryan Stow hangs in there and makes it home to his family. All sport fans should keep him in your prayers!

Been to two soccer games in France where my brother- in-law is from never seen a fight and we're not talking about "planned" fights after games. This may seem normal in these countries but it is'nt here. Sorry dude not here to piss you off in anyway but your missing my point.

No bro I am not getting pissed off, I can explain it to you this way, In USA, you are correct people are not as crazy about sports. But the rest of world sports especially soccer is like religion, people fight even die on weekly basis in the fights.
what i am trying to say is it is not a 3rd world thing. The rest of the world have been dealing with hooliganism for almost 30-40 years it is a new concept for USA and Canada. So it is not just south America and this is what i am trying to say. I know how things are in Brazil or Argentina but it is just silly to say it is a 3rd world thing.

Football hooliganism, also known as the English Disease[1][2][3][4] is unruly and destructive behaviour—such as brawls, vandalism and intimidation—by association football club fans.[5] Fights between supporters of rival teams may take place before or after football matches at pre-arranged locations away from stadiums, in order to avoid arrests by the police, or they can erupt spontaneously at the stadium or in the surrounding streets. Football hooliganism can range from shouts and small-scale fistfights and disturbances to huge riots where firms attack each other with deadly weapons such as sports bats, bottles, rocks, and knives.[6] In some cases, stadium brawls have caused fans to flee in panic; some being injured when fences or walls collapsed.[7] In the most extreme cases, hooligans, police, and bystanders have been killed, and riot police have intervened with tear gas, armoured vehicles and water cannons.[8]
A football firm (also known as a hooligan firm) is a gang formed to oppose and physically attack supporters of other clubs. Some firms exist to promote fringe political causes, both on the far Left and Right, with the football aspect of the club of minimal importance behind the promotion of their political ideals through violence. The firms' political views are not representative of all supporters of the teams. In the 1970s and early 1980s, the casual subculture transformed the British football hooliganism scene. Instead of wearing working class skinhead-style clothes, which readily identified hooligans to the police, firm members began wearing designer clothes and expensive offhand sportswear.
Football hooliganism has been depicted in films such as: I.D., The Firm, Cass, The Football Factory, Green Street, Rise of the Footsoldier and Awaydays. There are also many books about hooliganism, such as The Football Factory and Among the Thugs. Some critics argue that these media representations glamorise violence and the hooligan lifestyle.

What did you read or hear? The one YouTube interview with I believe the mother offered that they believe he fell behind other members of his group or family, was struck from behind, and was injured severely even before he hit the parking lot.

Certainly a savior would have been appreciated, but I'm not sure it would have done any good if he was nuked immediately. An incredible shame if this guy doesn't recover. I mean there are the dregs of society and then there's this guy, a father, an EMT worker, someone who was never in a fight from the remarks offered by family.

His assailants can burn for all I care. Not sold on the witnesses, though.

Can we just put bullets in the heads of the people that did this to him? Or are they going to go to prison for a few years while we pay for them? Then come up and be even more violent and pissed off.

This is a real shame. Here in Philly the radio talking heads are saying how the phillies games are getting to be more like Eagles games. People are geting hurt, little girls are getting thrown up on. 20 somethings running around bashing people for no reason. It really sucks. These Two two a-holes need to get curbed before they even get to the police station.

Walking out of the Eagles stadium after a night game is like walking around Camden at night. Scared for your life.

A very heartbreaking story just took a turn for the worse. The guy just wanted to watch a baseball game, a lame game at that, and look what happens just for wearing the away teams colors. This is a very sad commentary of the world we live in today, and a very sad image for the city of LA.

I hope he recovers fully for his families sake... And I hope those scum bags responsible for his beating get theirs 10 fold!

Any sense. And yes it does. These people are obviously scum of the earth. I would bet a million dollars that everyone of them who beat him has some sort of record. We need to get rid of people like this. This country needs a good cleaning. Start with all the prisons.

I guess you would rather them sit in jail. Or better yet, get released so they can terrorize other innocent people.
