Sox, I don't follow you on this. The current Dalai Lama is one of the coolest mofos on the planet. The reverence people treat him with has very little to do with him. He is very down to earth. As mentioned before, he has traveled around the world to speak with great minds in an attempt to learn, share, and teach.

Still, this has nothing to do directly with his holiness, as he has not even lived in Tibet for many many years (for those who don't know, he was cast out).

First off, his title was bestowed upon him at the ripe young age of 4.
How he was chosen is an awesome store, research it on your own.

2nd, commend him for doing something he should be doing?
Who the fuck are you? What have you done for humanity, surely not DEDICATE your entire life to the cause of reducing human suffering.

While most people are selfish egotistical nimrods, this guy's out there doing everything in his power to help others.

He doesn't own anything besides his clothes and his title.

The concept of the Dalai lama?

Simple. He's an exemplary model of how a buddhist (or anyone for that matter) should act and behave in regards to how they treat the world and it's inhabitants.

Watch some of his videos. He's incredibly genuine.

Your problem: You're taking the reverence of others to this man, as blind dogma towards a "name" or "title". As if he were godlike.
And I can see why that would piss someone off, who knows nothing about him.
The thing is though..he deserves it. He may be just human, but he's a damn good one. Selfless and loving.

I could go on, but you should really check out videos about him.
There's very few people in the world I respect, but he's certainly one of them.
