I like little stories dont you??
Me and my brother have been makin rockets of late (yes thats right just like 'October sky') Well our first launch was successful but about 100 meters off the ground the fins on the bottom of the rocket ripped off No big dealSo we thought lets make the next fins from aluminium (much stronger) So i found a strip of ally about 3 inches wide but it had some ridges on it. So we decided to take them off with a wood thicknesser. Well, everything was going to plan until............. I made an adjustment to go abit thinner, i present the metal to the machine.......... and BANG The piece of metal threw back at me and hit me in the inside of my calf just below the knee ![]() I take a look and think to my self that looks wierd, my legs looks like it goes in?? Bit of blood Hang on a sec.... That's my fuggin muscle i can see ![]() Well a few bandages ensueded from the rag bag, bit of packin tape for good measure and i was off to the hospital!! I wish i had of takin a photo I have 10 stitches Fotunately it wasn't deep enough to tear the musle (phew)I had a good look before it got stitched, i could see fat hangin off each side of the wound and my muscle was almost at the surface of the skin (friken ripped eh ) Anyway at home today takin it easy, i just kinda feels like a pulled muscle and im limpin around abit. Stuffin Rockets ![]() |

Ya' know, when most guys see the word "gash" they think of something else. I thought this was gonna be a story about getting laid.
Glad to hear you're OK. What do you use for propellant? I still love the old Estes model rockets. Never thought of going further than cardboard and balsa wood. ![]()

I sell rocket stuff at my store, I use to be able to get F engines that would have a burn time of 24 seconds, i could get G as well but you had to have an explosives license to have them.
![]() But since september 11, its tough to get anything bigger than a C.

peetrips; sorry to hear what happened, get well soon.
I loved launching those Estes rockets too, a whole lot of fun. When I was in middle school our shop teacher had us m rockets. We made them with the cardboard tubes from paper towel rolls and the fins were balsa wood, real simple rockets.

Holy shit, that's a beaut! My 9 year old boy just got a glimpse of it and let out a long, drawn out...'cooooool'.
Looks like it would've hurt for a bit. I was gonna ask if it has affected your bass playing, but you don't use your feet much for that, do you? Speaking of, ever see the blind fella, Jeff Healy, play guitar...puts it across his lap and absolutely SHREDS. Glad you're well.

Alright Albob, now I can understand why so many here say you suck, 'cuz you suck! Man, that must have been fantastic! I mean, Lonesome George AND Healy?? Haven't seen either of them live, but truly admire them both.
A story I heard about Jeff Healy was that he picked up a guitar as a young kid and basically taught himself, not knowing the 'right' way to hold it, hence laying it across his lap. I tell ya what though, as a fellow guitarist, having the use of your thumb while playing would add a TON of variety to your playing. I can stretch about 7-8 frets on a good day, but by incorporating my thumb, I can EASILY stretch 14 frets. That doesn't mean much to most people, I'm sure, but MY GOD, your hands would not have to work nearly as much with that type of reach.

![]() Talk about sucking. I was halfway up the highway in Virginia to see George Thorogood open for Stevie Ray Vaughn when they closed the road due to snow. Six months later SRV was dead. I never got to see him in concert. Hey, you're in Michigan, take a road trip to Detroit. They still holding concerts at the Silver Dome? Not to make you too jealous but, I saw Led Zeppelin there. Loudest show I've ever heard.

Yummy
That really sucks about Vaughn, wow. Never had the priviledge of seeing him, either. And you can still hear? Huh, what was that ya say? Seems like I heard once that aside from the Who, they hold a record for dB crankin' concerts.

Yeah, I think they held it until the Who came along.
Down on either side of the stage was an absolute wall of speakers. It must have been 20 feet high by 40 feet wide. In the middle of the show I looked down and saw some dude with really long straight hair standing about six feet in front of this wall. His hair was blowing straight back from his head but he just stood there staring at the wall. Ahhh, the wonders of modern chemistry. ![]()

Yeah, one thing I liked about the concerts of yesteryear was that you didn't have those damn pot smokin' fools like you do today...(hee, hee, hee, hee!!!...not me!)
