Thread: Good Old Southern Boys Arm Fishing

It's called "noodling" I believe. It's not legal here in Texas, but I have heard some mention it before. I think it's a red-neck game lol.

Gotta watch for alligators and snapping turtles... I heard there was a man recently drown from this type of fishing here locally. I think he got hung up in some hooks. OUCH!

I just saw that for the first time on "swamp people"(gater hunting show). It is called noodling in southern LA... Damn I wish i lived in the south. They put hollow logs in the water and leave them. they come back later to check for catfish that hide in the logs. One guy will cover one end of the log with his foot. while the other guy goes in with an arm on the other side and grab the fish as they grab the arm!

That's redneck extreme sport fishing. The new rage in all the trailer parks.

i never had catfish but supposedly it is very good.

Some call it fisting as well. Huge sport in OK, AR, MS and LA.

It just seems weird and painful to me. I guess I am not that out doorzie

My multi-millionaire step father used to do this in Missouri, the little tributaries of the Mississippi. He would go down and shove his arm into holes until he found one. Brave or stupid I don't know, he was a mix of both I reckon. Like the time he drove all the way to South America to pick up a bail jumper, with my Mom in the truck. Through treacherous jungle passes and cities where they kidnap Americans. He was something else that man, in a way being murdered by 2 thugs he had tried to help was almost fitting to the adventures he'd lived, like in the Korean war he lost his left ear when he took the Generals jeep for a joy ride.... Can;t say I'm the brightest either I used to sit on the back of raging bulls after school for several months until our coach put a stop to us football players risking ourselves to prove our bravado....

It's normal around here, just like any other kind of fishing. The mistake that is most common though is sticking your hand in a hole and a turtle be in it. The turtles will take fingers some times if big enough. Deep fried cat fish chunks are too good.

Snapping turtles are hardcore. My friend and I found one in a drainage ditch once. Looked like it was in a fight with something, probably another cause it had a gaping wound on its neck. We decided to rescue it so he stuck a closet wooden dowel in front for it to chomp on and hold while I lifted it, it snapped and I heard the wood crunching. We loaded him into a wheel barrow, made a little swamp in the back yard with a tarp covered with dirt, fenced it off with some wood and rocks, made a lean-to for shade. We clean his wound and fed him raw hamburger and fish sticks for 9 days then we went out the next morning and he had dug his way out. His wound had been closed for 3 days so he must have felt ready to go....
