I purchased a laptop from NewEgg. They have great prices and incredible customer service.

I don't know what your needs are, but I like power, so I purchased a laptop with a stand-alone video card (Nvidia). I have 4GB of system RAM and 1GB on the stand-alone.

I really, really recommend not getting an Intel video chip. They are pure garbage.

The Acer brand has done pretty good. They have a good laptop for a good price.

Intel i3 & i5 are better than the Phenom II, Look and see if there is a micro center near you, they always have specials and are alot of times cheaper than newegg Also you could look into building a desktop, I just built another and man this thing is a beat

Dell Outlet is is a great place. They frequently have coupon codes listed on facebook and twitter. They add new systems between 10 pm and 12 am central time. If you use firefox you can get an extension called check for change that will alert you when new systems are added. The best ones go within minutes.

if you want something small and light weight that is more mobile then look into the netbooks. you can add USB DVD +/- RW drives, USB external storage, etc.

Unfortunatley i was in a rush and i have to have a lap top.

I bought an MSI. Never even heard of them before.

    intel i3-380m
    4gb RAM
    320 Hard drive
    LED 15.6 viewable
    windows 7 premium

it was 479. I think 399 would be a suitable price but it is what it is.

I wonder if I can take the RAM out of my old compaq and put in here ?

4g of ram is good, How much ram is in your other? also with laptops its difficult to swap and replace things.

MSI makes great motherboards, so should be a decent laptop for the price

MSI is of good quality, I actually use one of their netbooks for all my Cisco configs out in the field.

check out the site below regarding increasing the memory

There is 3gb in my other.

This one is upgradeable to 6 I think.

I really wish I could have gotten an i5 or i7 processor.

Once positive thing so far is the battery life. Looks like I might get about 2.5 to 3 hours.

How does it go.....Memory double every so many years, or something like that.

I'm not really that computer savvy anymore.

    Thankfully you got an Intel

As far as adding the old RAM to your new laptop, that depends on how old your previous laptop the type and speed of the old ram. Your new laptop most likely has DDR3. Also depends on if you have any open banks too. Do you know what your old laptop has for memory?

I've noticed the intel doesnt get crazy hot like the AMD.

Unfortunately my old one has DDRII, I'll have to double check but I'm pretty sure. Either way, this one only has two slots. 4GB (2*2)

Eitherway, for what I use one for it doesn't matter. I just like MORE POWER

AMD CPU's run hotter than Intels they always have, nothing a large cooler with more airflow per minute can't fix. I just built my first AMD PC last Xmas after building hundreds of Intel PC's over the past couple of decades I have no complaints.

make sure you get some decent memory, cheap memory causes data corruption as it gets swamped back and forth on/off the RAM chip.
