Lockheed Martin detects 'significant' attack on information network

    By the CNN Wire Staff
    UPDATED: 02:47 AM EDT 05.29.11

Lockheed Martin acknowledged a "tenacious" attack on its information systems network this month but said no customer data was compromised.

The company issued a statement Saturday saying it learned of "a significant and tenacious attack" on May 21. It said the company's information security team quickly detected the attack and that no customer, program or employee personal data has been compromised.

It did not elaborate on the nature of the attack.

"Throughout the ongoing investigation, Lockheed Martin has continued to keep the appropriate U.S. government agencies informed of our actions," the statement said. "The team continues to work around the clock to restore employee access to the network, while maintaining the highest level of security."

Lockheed Martin is one the world's largest aerospace companies. It has about 126,000 employees, according to the statement.

I wonder if they use Norton or McAfee.

Assuming LMT is compliant with mandated security protocols from the DoD, they shouldn't have lost anything critical in the eyes of national security...although they certainly could have lost a lot of proprietary, unclassified technical data, and financials.

Classified information is not allowed on the internet or on regular hard drives that are connected to the internet. If the attackers wanted to access to to any Confidential, Secret, or Top Secret info, they would have to physically tap into the network of SIPRNET and DoD PKI.

My guess is, it's either the Chinese or some disgruntled taxpayer that is feeding that monster.
Don't go around saying the world owes you a living. The world owes you nothing. It was here first.

Believe it or not almost every conviction of espionage on the US by US citizens have been US gov't personnel, disgruntled tax payers working in the private sector. Contractors have much more to lose...like a high paying secure job. USG jobs are secure, but hardly high paying, which is motive right there for selling secrets.

What's the purpose for "It did not elaborate on the nature of the attack"? They're attempting to discourage copycat saboteurs?
