Police: Washington Girl, 15, Shot Father With Arrow After Taking Her Cell Phone

TAHUYA, Wash. – Authorities in Washington state say they're arrested a teenage girl for allegedly shooting her dad with an arrow after he took her cell phone away.

Mason County detective William Adam says the man told officers that his 15-year-old daughter used a hunting bow to shoot him Wednesday evening after he grounded her and took the phone.

KOMO-TV reports he was airlifted from the rural, forested Tahuya area to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle and listed in serious condition.

Adam says the girl fled into woods behind her home with the bow and arrows but a SWAT team surrounded her and arrested her for investigation of first-degree assault.

Tahuya is about 35 miles west of Seattle.

Guess we need bow and arrow permits now.

That was sarcasm. It just doesn't express well when typed.

Taking cell phone away from teens (especially the girls) is the meanest thing one can do to them. Girls just love to chat with their friends and I don't see anything wrong with it. I feel sorry for that girl.

D'OH! Watch the video. After the girl "allegedly" shot her father with the arrow? She wouldn't let him use the cell phone to dial 911.

The guy had to crawl to a neighbor's home to call for help.

Kids these days don't need more discipline. They need more love and understanding. They are not grown ups, and you need to have a very big heart and patience to raise a teen. People should not expect them to act like grown ups. So yes I still feel sorry for that poor girl and also sorry for that father.

Love and understanding has nothing to do with discipline... or yet discipline is there because there is love and understanding. There are rules and boundaries in every household and you need to instill healthy habits for children as those habits will accompany them rest of their lives.

Kids don't necessarily know what's best for them, just because you do things that may not make them "happy" for the time being, that doesn't mean it's lack of love or understanding.

there seems to be a great deal of children/adolescents these days with poor coping abilities to control the natural born impulse behavior.

Its been happening for years. Nothing new.

One time my father called me a punk when i was 14. Said i should "move to san francisco with the rest of the flakes"....whatever that meant. Guess he was implying that i was gay. Anyway, as he turned around i threw a pear at his head. Not a ripe one either, it was as hard as a baseball. It hit his head and exploded, sending him sprawling accross the hardwood floor and he crumpled into a heap. I thought i killed him for a second. Bolted out of the house and laid low for a week somewhere.

Anyway, my point is show some diplomacy when dealing with your kid. Avoid the name calling. Dont try to demean your kid as your attempting to discipline them. This father probably disrespected her completely and was verbally abusive. Doesnt justify shooting pops with an arrow though.

This might sound wrong and it probably is, but I can just picture you throwing that pear and knocking out your pops

Lol and he was sneaky too. After i came back "all was forgiven"...or so i thought. Cops wake me up out of a dead sleep, arrest me and take me to family court. Judge put me in a group home for a month or so. My teen years were horrendous. Probably all that Natty-T i had or something.

Video offers that the man was shot with a training arrow. Lucky man.

Have you seen hunting arrows? Mean business.

Sure a girl won't like her phone taken away, but to go to that extreme, just shows the mental state of this girl, I have 3 daughters, and they don't have cell phones yet, the oldest is 9, and I refuse to buy her a cell phone, eventhough her friends in school have cell phones..

And when they get older, if I need to take their cell phones away, for what ever reason, I will...

the ability to delay gratification is no longer taught to the youth in the US today. it's one of the biggest problems with our society here.

I've had the pleasure of watching my girls sisters kids for this week. Gotta say, kids are not easy to deal with, but treating them with respect, showing some love/affection goes a long way. Dealing with a 12 year old girl and her 5 year old adhd\odd\god knows what else little brother hasn't been a party, but these kids have been awesome for me and their aunt relative to how they act when their moter\father\stepfather are around. Just goes to show what your attitude can do to a kid.

children are born with blank slates, they are not pre-programmed everything is learned from their environment. they act how the parents allow then to behave. this is even more apparent when you see the difference in behavior when the children are with the single mother vs when visiting the single father. from what I have observed the guilt factor in the single mother makes them a push-over and typically very poor disciplinarian. in terms of couples/parnts still together there is usually a conflict in information and/or the discipline techniques that cause behavior problems.

Not much different from my dogs, if I am relaxed and calm they take cues from me and just chill out, if I start going manic, searching for that book that I read that line in and start throwing books and papers around the room they start getting hyper-excited, or I am deep in concentration, then the phone rings and I get mad and throw my shoe at the phone to shut it up and yell "who the fuck is calling me right now!" they run and grab my shoe and start barking and going crazy with me then I yell to hush and they bark louder then chaos will ensue unless I calm down and get them to sit and talk them down in a soothing voice.

And I am that way cause my dad would get mad and yell at us to shut-up if we got too noisy and disturbed his watching tv....
Coarse edged youth, the irish pendants string from their smiles
not yet plucked as to slacken the seams
and drag down the features of age,
no folds or creases from unkempt wear
    eyes of tranquilty, crystalline-beads
no sign of despair in their hair, nor their hearts
but oh they have yet to be experienced and that makes aging so very worth it...ML circa2012

The dad should've known that if you're gonna confiscate the cell phone, you also confiscate the bow and arrow at the same time.

Why does she even have a bow + arrow? Those are so ancient when you're a hunter.

You don't need a license. She wasn't old enough to have a gun permit. What are you a gun grabber?
