    Epigenetics-changing your destiny...

I've been reading up quite a bit on this stuff and it is fascinating. Basically, at the end of every gene is an epigenome that turns it on and off. So, while you may have the gene for diabetes, cancer, Alzheimer's, etc., as long as that gene is silenced by the epigenome, it is never expressed. The best part is that the epigenome is very much under our control, the 3 biggest epigenetic factors are diet, exercise, and lifestyle/stress (sleep, smoking, job, etc.). Big Pharma has put tons of money in this, but they haven't found any drug better than the 3 factors mentioned above, which is why they are spending a fortune on fish oil esters as DHA is critically important in silencing inflammatory and atherogenic genes. Turmeric is also a hugely positive epigenetic factor and can explain why places in India that use it often have 75% less occurrences of cardiovascular disease, Alzheimer's, and other inflammatory diseases than Americans. Here is a fluff piece from time, discuss.

yes, it is very interesting stuff. I just wish there was more peer reviewed research on it but that will come in years.

this is why I have no real sympathy for those that claim to have the "fat gene", it is their lifestyle choices that enable those genes to be fully expressed, etc.

just like the person with the peanut allergy learns he/she can not consume peanut based products or serious consequences will be paid, so most the person with the "fat gene" learn that they can not be idle and consume massive amounts of heavily processed foods laden with chemical additives.
I train differently than most, my beef is with gravity the weights on the bar are just the medium...Thanks to Wall Street your slice of the American Pie has been reduced to a crumb.
