I guess it depends on whether or not we classify gender reassignment surgery as elective or a medical necessity. If it is a necessity, then transtesticle veterans should be covered. If it is elective/cosmetic, then it shouldn't be covered by the tax payers. Other veterans not getting help is a separate issue. On the other hand, having the state foot the bill for a transtesticle in prison to get chopped should not happen, IMO.

if it's "necessary" then they never should have been eligible to enlist due to the medical "condition" in the first place.....they were not forthcoming with it either and should have been discharged for false info upon enlistment and get NO benefits and bad conduct discharge

My cousin didn't learn (he)she was transgender until she was 30years old. I remember when she was 18 as a he and wanted so bad to join the Marines, but then his girlfriend at the time was more important to him so he never joined. Back then he was very macho, ultra-conservative, praised Rush Limbaugh. After he became a she, well she is still pretty conservative, sends me conservative spam all the time on facebook....It had been so repressed out of fear and all the machismo was over-compensation for the repressed feelings she was having....It didn't help living in Texas and being in a family with he-men who all had been in the military, never miss a hunting trip, all bearded grunting hard drinking types, etc....

    Just an example

Coarse edged youth, the irish pendants string from their smiles
not yet plucked as to slacken the seams
and drag down the features of age,
no folds or creases from unkempt wear
    eyes of tranquilty, crystalline-beads
no sign of despair in their hair, nor their hearts
but oh they have yet to be experienced and that makes aging so very worth it...ML circa2012
