The Fall of a Generation - Documentation

“Someday all of the people who run this world will die and will become replaced with, us.
The society that we are living in is not like what our parents and our grandparents grew up in. It is stained with greed and corruption everywhere we look. The youth of today have complete lack of morals and ethics to the point where I am sure will very well destroy society.
For example: It is “cool” for girls to dress like whores and it is “cool” to mimic urban-ghetto culture such as general lazy-ness to even clothing/language.
I am working on a documentation regarding this and would like to know your opinion. I will be posting this on several different forums and boards to get a view from what everyone has to say.

Also I am not some middle-aged prude or religious activist I am actually one of today’s youth.

Start a discussion and tell me what you are thinking. Any quotes used in my documentation will be credited.

^ I think the lack of morals exists with those running things now. And they aren't "kids" or the youth.

    The corruption in:

    Banks
    Corporations
    Government
    Military-Industrial Complex
    War Mongering
    Neo-liberal destruction of society

    It's been a plundering.

And the youth will remain to pick up the pieces and survive the best way they can.
Don't go around saying the world owes you a living. The world owes you nothing. It was here first.

I think todays people seem to forget this.

Thread feels like it's lacking a sense of historical context.

Also, there's less morals in the previous generation than the new.

Plenty of good smart kids, it's the information era after all.

Reexamine all that you have been told in school, or in church or in any book. Dismiss whatever insults your soul.

Smart kids with lot of knowledge but little or no character is no good, I think. Anyway I posted these quotes here because it is somehow related to the topic and also I like good quotes.

Jesus was the one to announce the Age of Aquarius:
"a man will meet you carrying an earthen pitcher of
water; follow him into the house where he goes in"

To me, this represents the turn from the age of materialism (Pisces) to the age of Aquarius. The age of Pisces is the age when the dark side of the human brain controlled civilization.

Huh? This sounds like an incredibly emotional overreaction.

    Gross over-generalization.

I think we humans are on our way out, but I don't blame it on today's "youth". By the way, what do you define as "today's youth" anyway?

for sure...morals and values have been replaced for whatever it takes to be noticed or make financial gains. tv is a horrible source to learn values but many do.

the further decline of the family also contributes to this, with the single parent the child is only exposed to viewpoints and information from one main caregiver. if that parent does not supply the child with this information they will get it from tv, peers, society/internet, etc..

while we are in the information age many simply are not able to apply this knowledge in ways to benefit their own life's. to me this signifies a decrease in the overall intelligence in the general population.

Foolish elders are worse than the youth for allowing them to become degenerates.

You know me and my buddy were talking about how music has changed. Specifically how Pantera was kind of a counter culture type deal when we were growing up. Then I said "At least it's music and not that autotune bullshit on the radio today." Then I stopped and thought that I sound just like my parents. But I truly feel that the shit out today isn't music. Am I getting old and hostile at my ripe old age of 22?

    Music never really changes.
Heavy metal of the 70's/80's was a throwback to classics like Bach and beethoven.

Music is always a reflection of the human condition. It can't "really" change.
    Only our hardware has changed.

This is quite the interesting topic and has so many facets to it there is really no single thing to point to and say that is the cause. Society took a major dive shortly after the Korean war even though the US was prospering. Talking to my parents and grandparents really gave me perspective on this. Vietnam really seemed to be the beginning of the end in my eyes, that is when the Govt really started to get WAY too big, people voices were heard less and less even if they continued to raise the volume of it, and sending people to die for otherwise pointless reasons became "ok".

Another thing that constantly bothers me is the US censors sexuality and even vilifies it, especially in the media. Yet you can turn on any channel and see what would be PG-13 or R movie violence near round the clock or god forbid you play a video game with a rating over 13. When violence became the norm that to me was a paradigm shift towards the negative. Now you mention kids dressing provocatively at a young age which I agree is a problem. What is the cause though? Well it is a taboo, like smoking or drinking so of course kids will do it. Now it is just more available to see as 11 year olds are seeing some whore from Hollywood in Cosmo and thinking it is ok to dress like her and suck some dude off at a party at 12 (so wrong!). I don't have a solution but I do know that one of the more positive take-aways from my time spent in Europe is that they are much more open about sexuality. People are accepting, more open to speak about it and there is a lot less judgment on sexual orientation. I don't ever remember seeing the news and hearing about a hate crime over there.

Whether or not that rant makes any sense I don't know but I do know we are not going in a direction and having so much information at hand to kids at a young age does no good for them. A young mind can't process what it is learning and going out and doing something stupid has consequences for years to come (by that I mean anything).

I'd question how much people have really changed. People have good and bad traits, characters, and motives. People experience happiness and sadness, pleasure and pain, hope and fear, and many other contrasting states during the course of their lives. It has been like this for hundreds, or perhaps thousands, of years.

In some respects, I belive today's younger generation is more honest than their parents and grandparents. It seems as if many teenagers are less likely to conceal or deny involvement in actions or activities which aren't considered "socially or morally acceptable." In past decades, people were more concerned about maintaining an image or appearance of decency, integrity, and morality. In such an environment, the life many people really lived was quite different then the image they tried to up hold.

I saw a video on the history of prostitution in New York City. According to this video, the number of brothels per capita in New York reached it's peak during the Victorian Era. The Victorian Era is historically noted for it's appearance of modesty, piety, and propriety. It seems that underneath all of the outward appearances, people still wanted to have sex!

Technology has changed the lives of people. The internet has changed the world. Twenty four hour news media has changed our view of the world. Cell phones provide an easy way to access information and contact friends. All of these technologies change the way people live, but these technologies do not change our fundamental humanity.

Technology has improved access to things which are considered morally objectionable. Improved accessablity can lead to higher consumption. Some folks would argue that this means morals are cascading down the toilet. I would suggest that improved accessability simply reveals the real character of people.

In conclusion, people have changed and adapted as the years pass, but the changes in people have been far more gradual than the changes in the world around us. People today are very similar to preceeding generations. Yes, there have been changes in the way people live and act. But these changes are relatively superficial. People are still people with all of their good and bad characteristics.

It didn't to me, but anyway I already mention the cause of most problems is moronic adults who make the mistake of having sex and becoming parents and being inccapable of properly raising offspring.

This is a very interesting topic to me. I know several well mannered, motivated and driven teens, but unfortunate for us, ours is not one of them. He is very lazy and self entitled. I know I/we have to take some of the blame for his attitude and morals, but I kid you not, in our house hold, nature differently won over nurture.
Our son has been around his biological father for maybe a total of 2 years of his going on 19 years of life. He is just like his biological father, it is weird to me/us. Sad really.

    you are correct...

the high content of violence on US tv is by design, it's all part of social darwinism that helps fuel the neo-liberal economic agenda and a major component of that is to have no empathy for those that are "failures" at anything.

the ever growing US military complex since the 70's and after the end of the cold war is nothing but colonialism disguised by the US gov as "fighting terrorism" and "spreading democracy" and the sheep have bought into it hook line and sinker again...
