the federal government serves the interests of the banks and multinational corps. representative government at the state level can sometimes actual solve a problem if it's small.

to date I can not think of one problem that the US gov has actually solved vs shifting it somewhere else to fester and grow. you guys expect way more out of gov than I.

Protecting the planet from people destroying it should result in a net-positive for the world. I have no ideology, I just believe in protecting our planet first. Because, in the end, if you destroy the planet, I won't have much need for oil to drive around in my car with, or to heat my house. But, keep in mind, when I am referring to those "Big assholes", I am referring to big oil and any company that puts profits above our safety. I don't know who you are, but I know you don't own Exxon/Mobil, so I am not referring specifically to you. I'm all for oil exploration and extraction as long as the people doing it don't dump 5 billion barrels of it in to my ocean, which seems to be too much to ask for lately. Then, with all of this scrutiny on big oil, they dump it in the Yosemite river. I know it is a multi-faceted accident, but maybe pay smarter people to do the job, or not give it to the lowest bidder.

    oufinney,

You are not one of those assholes - unless you're a CEO or on the Board of Directors.

    Not sure what you mean.....

Interestingly The Americans changed Iraq oil currency back to the US Dollar 3 weeks after invading Iraq in March of 2003.

Oil bourse (currency) in USD is why the Americans were able to run up massive deficits, year after year. And most importantly, these deficits funding the empires use of the military, and military industrial-complex.

The USA made a deal with the Saudis to use only USD to buy and sell oil in 1972.

I was a little hot last night. I still feel that the industry is painted in an unfair light, you don't hear about the ridiculous, I STRESS ridiculous, corruption that is the auto industry in America. Spent some time working with machine shops in the Detroit/Windsor area, what I heard from those owners makes the oil industry look like a fairy tale. We are not the bad guys, there are bad apples for sure (BP and to some extent Exxon being the biggest) but it is a huge employer in America and will grow drastically if given the chance. I am all for SMARTER, not more, regulation. Just forcing people to produce realistic plans for drilling and to some extent pipelay (what I do) is a prudent step forward; now the permits just need to be approved much faster.

Read this, it will give you an idea how much the industry can benefit the country in producing jobs quickly with no "investment" from the government: RIGZONE - GOM Employment Could Increase if Admin. Allows -Study

LOL! I love this argument that humans are going to destroy the planet. We can't drill for our own domestic oil supply or explore for natural gas because we're going to destroy the planet if we do. The earth has existed for 4.5 billion years, survived meteor collisions, mega volcanoes, tsunamis, solar flares, and massive earthquakes, but humans are going to come along with our suvs and coal burning plants and destroy the earth in a couple hundred years. It's really comical when you put it into perspective.

We may rub ourselves out thru a nuclear war one day, but the earth isn't going anywhere.

I'm actually 100% for Natural Gas. And to be honest, I don't think we are going to destroy the planet. On the contrary, I think the planet will survive just fine, but it will be uninhabitable for us.

I had forgotten that he did change the currency and the reserves then the US switched it back, what a coincidence, hugh..

many just don't understand the economic implications of US dependency on the OPEC dollar. the days of hyperinflation are going to come, no reason to rush into it, very few are prepared for double digit inflation.

all the easy oil is gone all that's left is in deep water or in shale, not much profit to be made there. the financial well being of the markets is far more important than that of main street. they will milk the use of the petro-dollar for as long as possible to take advantage of the free capital it brings into the US. energy independence is of much less importance than stock prices and corp profits.

we are already in the process...

global industry has rendered 70% of the usable drinking water on the planet unfit for human consumption and oceans are now toxic waste dumps. yea we are doing a bang up job on mother earth. RF interference is disrupting bees so we know that is going to also have a "positive" effect on the planet and crop production. eventually everyone is going to have to buy food direct from Monsanto.

Yeah but the industry is still dealing with harsh chemicals and extreme energy consumption. There's also the CO2 that is created as a byproduct of turning the quartz into pure silicon (SiO2 + C > Si + CO2). Maybe they're getting better but the solar industry is currently not a green industry.

When countries even talk about going off of USD oil bourse the US gov has a shit-fit.

They don't say anything publicly, but they know that it's critical.

When the oil dollar/petro dollar is not the USD, the empire will not be an empire economically nor militarily.

many just don't understand the economic implications of US dependency on the OPEC dollar. the days of hyperinflation are going to come, no reason to rush into it, very few are prepared for double digit inflation.
I highly recommend reading the The Prize by Daniel Yergin.

It's about the history of oil in the world.

You can also download the documentary based on the book. It's very good.

Indeed. Cheap and easy oil is over, and inflation is here now and will probably rise.
