From Academy Award®-winning filmmaker Andrew Stanton, "John Carter of Mars" is a sweeping action adventure set on the mysterious and exotic planet of Barsoom (Mars). Based on the classic sci-fi novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs, the film tells the story of John Carter (Taylor Kitsch), who is inexplicably transported to Mars where he becomes embroiled in a conflict of epic proportions amongst the inhabitants of the planet, including Tars Tarkas (WillemDafoe) and the captivating Princess Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins). In a world on the brink of collapse, Carter discovers that the survival of Barsoom and its people rests in his hands.

Academy Award-winning director Andrew Stanton (Finding Nemo, WALL-E) is making his live-action debut with upcoming sci-fi adventure John Carter. Today at D23 Expo, The Walt Disney Studios showed some footage from the film, which hopefully we will be able to see soon. This NY Times article says Disney spent $250 million on it. Odd considering they balked on spending that same budget on The Lone Ranger with Johnny Depp.

The Syfy channel aired the Antonio Sabato Jr. and Traci Lords version on Sunday morning. I think the kids in the future will appreciate the money spent on the Disney version.
