You can see from last week he's thinking he's going to have to kill the bossman sometime in the not too distant future... Should be crazy.

Interesting how the boss knew exactly what to do to bring Jesse back around and give him some confidence. I loved how Walter got drunk and started spouting off how Gale wasn't the genius and his notes were only copied from the real genius (him). Hank was off the case until Walter basically talked him into staying involved. Best episode so far this year. Show just keeps getting better.

Skyler only had two kids, and she is hotter, so I would go with her. Lois had 5 kids, so I am sure her vagina is destroyed.

So why do you think they wanted to make Jessie look like a "Hero"?

because he's a liabililty while he's on the downward spiral.....they're either trying to build him up and motivate him to act right, or they're gonna kill him in season 5 to prove that they have absolute control over walter white's wishes

If they were going to kill him, they would have already done it. No need to waste time and fuck around. I think they're doing it to get at Walter. Jesse is going to become more loyal to those guys because he wants to be that one guys sidekick. Then that's going to alienate Walter even more.

This is how I interpreted it.

The boss set up those dudes at the end to kill Jesse, but Jesse got away and thought they were there to rob them.

The body guard guy driving with Jesse was not told by the boss that Jesse was going to get wacked, but he knew something was going to happen. That is why at the end when it's the boss and the older dude in the car he says he dosen't ask questions about what is going on, basically saying he knew what was going on but since the boss didn't tell him directly he would not comment on it.

    ^^

No because the bodyguard guy told Gus that "It happened like you said it would. Jesse looked like a hero."

    So obviously he knew something.

What was the message behind Gus killing his number #1 guy by slitting his throat? Was it to say to Walter, "I'll do this to my own guys who are loyal to me, what do you think I will do to you?"

Well he was seen at the scene of the crime. So he really had to die. Granted Walt didn't know that, but I think that you are correct in what you think it meant. Gus is a hardass and he just wanted to show Walter that he takes care of bisness and anyone who gets in the way.

I agree. I think for now the boss was looking to get Jesse back in line by setting up a scenario which gives him some much needed self-esteem, and gives him a sense of belonging. Gus pulled him back in with one fell swoop, and he is once again a loyal employee. Jesse is very easy to manipulate. I do not think that Jesse was in any real danger at this point. Also, he is an interesting character, and second only to Walt in popularity with the fans. I do not think the show will kill him off at this time. He and Walt will continue to feel the stress and challenge of their chosen situation. The threat of death will always be present for both Jesse and Walt given their choice to be involved with a major drug manufacturing operation. I suspect Gus will continue to be a kind of master of puppets, pulling the strings behind the scenes. Fantastic stuff.

    Theories so far:
    --To mess with Walt
    --Whack gone wrong
--To boost Jesse's self esteem and make him loyal

I'd like to add that it could also have been to test Jesse's loyalty. To see whether he would drive off with the money. After a day of being basically imprisoned and mind fucked in a car, Jesse still remained loyal.

I think he slit his throat because he was sloppy and was seen at the crime scene. It was about the liability. He took advantage of the situation and cut his throat in front of the help as a kind of object lesson (this is what you get when you become a liability and put me in danger). Gus has already proven that he is utterly ruthless, and will stop at nothing to accomplish his goals.

I like the part about testing his loyalty. That sounds like something Gus would do.

This ^^^. Though I'm still trying to figure out Gus and what really makes him tick. He's written as a very complex character and definitely not somebody to mess with.
