Got two boys and wouldn't change it for anything. Also got snipped at age 31. You may wanna have another if you meet the right chick. I'd hold off on getting snipped for now. Just my 2ccs.

Mid to late twenties is a decent time to start. You're still young enough to enjoy them and you shouldn't have to have a teenager living at home when you retire.

To the people that want to "wait until we're ready"? Whatever you say, sweetcheaks. You're NEVER ready. You may be ready financially, or think you are. But other than that you'll NEVER be ready. It's a thing that turns your world upside down.

I'm three kids down the road. 16, 14 and 5. Each one is different and poses unique challenges to raising them. The best they can each do is teach you patience to deal with the others and deal with other things in life.

Figured so much from a guy who has "hustler" under his forum name. Probably thought you were so cool when you wrote that.

The wife and I are 36 and we have no desire to have any ankle biters. Part of my reasoning is there's no future for them in this country.

Anyone over 30 have any thoughts on this? Have your desires for having children grown or faded over the years?
Man, I'm not having a vasectomy although I have no plans on having kids.

Never say your son was a mistake. Kids hear that shit and internalize it. Or some do.

    (bossy jerk is bossy)

My desire for children has declined over the years. I love being able to do what I want to do when I want to do it. I'm not a chauffeur and the stress and drama factor is reduced significantly, I suspect. The desire went south, too, after seeing so many marriages end in disasters and children being torn apart by divorce, neglect, and worse.

I have several friends who had children in their mid 40's. In fact, I've known a couple of men with younger wives who had kids in their 50's. They are all very good parents with excellent kids. There are advantages and disadvantages in waiting to have kids. I'd say that having kids when one is in their late 20's to mid 30's is probaby ideal in general, but a person's specific situation should be carefully considered before making such a big decision.

Littlewing's observation that messed up people do not have kids is often, but not always true. A significant to large percentage of older childless people I've known were messed up or had major problems. But on the other side of the coin, quite a few childless adults and couples I've known were quite normal. There are MANY,MANY reasons people decide not to have kids. I believe the decision to have a child is a very, very personal decision. It is a decision which should be very carefully and thoughtfully considered. I also believe that other people should respect the decision a person makes. If anyone wants more information on this subject, there are several websites devoted to childless couples / adults. If an internet search is for "childless by choice" or a similar phrase is performed more information can be found.
