    Arrow Blade Runner

Still in early stages while Ridley Scott finishes Prometheus.

UPDATED: Ridley Scott To Direct A New Blade Runner Installment!

UPDATED: Ridley Scott To Direct A New Blade Runner Installment!

Yes, it is really happening...Could we see Deckard on the big screen again? Maybe, but we do have a confirmation that Ridley Scott is returning to direct a brand new version of his classic sciencefiction film Blade Runner. Check it out!
After a lot of rumors and talks about another Blade Runner film, we now have a confirmation that there will indeed be a new installment with Ridley Scott returning to direct. Deadline has more info:

"After revisiting his classic Alien with the upcoming 3D Fox film Prometheus, Ridley Scott is committing to direct and produce a film that advances his other seminal and groundbreaking science fiction film. Scott has signed on to direct and produce a new installment of Blade Runner."

Now, many people are excited for Prometheus, which is a new take on the Alien mythology with different characters. I would say he might do the same with a new Blade Runner. Will it be a prequel, a sequel or a brand new take without Harrison Ford? Well, no one knows that yet, but after this, more details should be available soon. As you know, the 1982 film was based on Philip K. Dick's novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? and in my opinion, it's one of the best science fiction films ever made. So, what do you think? Do you want to see a new Blade Runner film?

UPDATE: And here is the press release just to confirm the story:

LOSANGELES, CA, AUGUST 18, 2011—Three-time Oscar-nominated director Ridley Scott is set to helm a follow up to his own ground-breaking 1982 science fiction classic “Blade Runner” for Warner Bros-based financing and production company Alcon Entertainment (“The Blind Side,” “The Book of Eli”).

Alcon co-founders and co-Chief Executive Officers Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove will produce with Bud Yorkin and Cynthia Sikes Yorkin, along with Ridley Scott. Frank Giustra and Tim Gamble, CEO’s of Thunderbird Films, will serve as executive producers.

The filmmakers have not yet revealed whether the theatrical project will be a prequel or sequel to the renowned original.

Alcon and Yorkin recently announced that they are partnering to produce “Blade Runner” theatrical sequels and prequels, in addition to all
    television and interactive productions.

The original film, which has been singled out as the greatest science-fiction film of all time by a majority of genre publications, was selected for preservation in the
UnitedStates National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.” The film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry in 1993 and is frequently taught in university courses. In 2007, it was named the 2nd most visually influential film of all time by the Visual Effects Society.

State Kosove and Johnson: “It would be a gross understatement to say that we are elated Ridley Scott will shepherd this iconic story into a new, exciting direction. We are huge fans of Ridley’s and of the original ‘Blade Runner.’ This is once in a lifetime project for us.”

Scott is represented by David Wirtschafter at WME and David Nochinson at Ziffren Brittenham.

Released by Warner Bros. almost 30 years ago, “Blade Runner” was adapted by Hampton Fancher and David Peoples from Philip K. Dick’s groundbreaking novel “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?” and directed by Scott following his landmark “Alien.” The film was nominated for two Academy Awards (Best Visual Effects, and Best Art Direction). Following the filming of “Blade Runner,” the first of Philip K. Dick’s works to be adapted into a film, many other of Dick’s works were likewise adapted, including “Total Recall,” “A Scanner Darkly,” “Minority Report,” “Paycheck,” and the recent “The Adjustment Bureau,” among others.

Thanks to Collider for the press release.

Producer Andrew Kosove Comments On New Blade Runner Film; Harrison Ford Won't Return?

Producer Andrew Kosove Comments On New Blade Runner Film; Harrison Ford Won't Return?

Talking about how important it was to get RidleyScott back for the new Blade Runner film, producer Andrew Kosove also mentions that the soonest they could start shooting is in 2013. Check it out!

Reinvention or reimagine...Those are the two words that are very popular in Hollywood right now. Whether if it is reinvention of the single character or the entire film, sometimes it works, especially when you have the original director back for a brand new version of the film. In this case, that is Ridley Scott, who directed a sci-fi film noir Blade Runner from 1982. Starring HarrisonFord as Rick Deckard and Rutger Hauer as replicant (genetically engineered organic robots) Roy Batty, film was set in a dystopian LosAngeles in 2019. By many, this is one of the best films in its genre. Today, the news broke that Scott is confirmed to direct another film, but it's still unclear what will it be, a sequel, prequel or something else. Well, talking to LA Times' 24 Frames, producer Andrew Kosove offered some new info, and why it was necessary to get Ridley Scott back. More below.

On gettind Ridley Scott back to direct the film:

"We had a few Plan Bs. But we were really focusing on Plan A, which was Ridley. Everything Ridley does as a filmmaker is fresh. I believe he sees an opportunity to create something that’s wholly original from the first Blade Runner. When we made the first announcement there was a lot of skepticism, understandably. And now with Ridley coming back there's a greater level of comfort. And once we have the writer, I think fans will feel even more comfortable. We want people to know that we're very serious about doing this in an artistic way. This isn't just commercial fodder."

As for when to expect the film, LA TIMES mentions this:

"The soonest Kosove could see the movie beginning shooting is early 2013 - it would take at least 18 months to hire a writer, get a script in working order under Scott's guidance, cast the film and move into production. Either way, that means a new "Blade Runner" wouldn't be in theaters until 2014 at the earliest."

And what about Harrison Ford? Well, if you ask Kosove, he won't be back:

"In no way do I speak for Ridley Scott. But if you're asking me will this movie have anything to do with Harrison Ford, the answer is no. This is a total reinvention, and in my mind that means doing everything fresh, including casting."

The most important part of this new version was getting Scott back. Now that he is, and even without Ford, this could work. I really love the 1982 film, and it is something unique. But that's just my opinion. So, what do you think? If Ford is not coming back, who would you like to see in the leading role?

Bladerunner! Darryl Hannah, Rutger Hauer, and Harrison Ford. The cast, the effects, for its time was awesome. i don't know how anything would compare to that.

Scott probably didn't want the tainted goods after Lucas and Spielberg raped Indiana Jones.

Harrison Ford In Early Negotiations For New BLADE RUNNER Film

Harrison Ford In Early Negotiations For New BLADE RUNNER Film

As progress on Ridley Scott's upcoming Blade Runner installment continues, the actor behind Deckard in the original film has apparently begin early talks to join the cast of the movie. PaulRom - 2/4/2012

Back in August of last year, Alcon Entertainment producer Andrew Kosove said that there were no plans to bring back Harrison Ford in Ridley Scott's upcoming Blade Runner movie. Whether or not the film is a sequel or prequel has yet to be announced, but the following news may indicate that the movie is indeed a direct sequel to the original film.

Twitch Film has learned that Harrison Ford - who played lead character 'Deckard' in the original 1982 film - has entered early negotiations to join the new Blade Runner installment. As the discussions are still early, it's possible that things won't work out and Ford won't appear in the movie. Still, it can be considered evidence that the film is a sequel to Scott's original film.

In addition, back in November, Ridley Scott himself stated the film was 'liable' to be a sequel. But expect an official announcement for the movie soon, including the revealing of the screenwriter and whether or not it'll be a sequel or prequel.

Be sure to check back for the latest on the new Blade Runner film, which is widely speculated to be Ridley Scott's next project (despite having various other films in the works).

First they say everything is going to be fresh and new with nine of the original cast, and now they are going to have Harrison back as Deckard...

I hope its set 30 years later, 2049. The colony on the moon where most black market activity now takes place because most peoples flying cars(spinners are available to everyone now) are capable of leaving Earths atmosphere. No country, nor Mega-Corporation has jurisdiction on the Moon because it's not profitable, everything has been mined, so it's a wild west wasteland. Criminals escape there and bounty hunters(blade runners)are the only real law who dare to venture into it's seedy underworld. Replicants are now allowed to live on Earth, but only after having a non-violence chip installed, the removal of which will trigger a catastrophic short circuit and thermal meltdown of all crucial components rendering the replicant beyond repair... Some go to the moon to have it modified or tuned down, so that they can go back and earn money as fighters on Earth.
Also a new procedure has grown in popularity on the Moon where replicant bodies can be spliced with real human heads and this is causing major problems...
Coarse edged youth, the irish pendants string from their smiles
not yet plucked as to slacken the seams
and drag down the features of age,
no folds or creases from unkempt wear
    eyes of tranquilty, crystalline-beads
no sign of despair in their hair, nor their hearts
but oh they have yet to be experienced and that makes aging so very worth it...ML circa2012

    I hope it's not a disappointment.
I don't see how it could match the original.

    The Man speaks!

Ridley Scott On His New BLADE RUNNER Film; Wants To Work With Harrison Ford Again

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, director Ridley Scott talks about his upcoming Blade Runner installment and recent rumors surrounding the project. He says that he's meeting with writers for the project, while also saying that while Harrison Ford (who played Rick Deckard in the original film) isn't in talks to return (debunking the recent rumors of Ford's involvement), Scott would love to work with him again. It currently isn't known whether or not Deckard will even return in the film. Meanwhile, Scott briefly hints at a possible sequel for his next film Prometheus.

"We’re still in discussions about whether it should be a prequel or sequel," says Scott. "It’s an interesting conversation. I’m meeting with writers and I’ve also gone back to Hampton Fancher and he still speaks the speak. He’s right there. I spoke with him this week. But we don’t even have a script yet."

"I’m not sure that that’s going to be a story point," he says concerning Deckard's possible return. "so I don’t know. But if it were, nothing would please me more. Honestly."

"I just thought Prometheus was so enjoyable — returning to the world of science fiction was so fun — that I wanted to [go back to Blade Runner, too]. I’m also thinking about what the hell I might do for a Prometheus 2."

Shame to admit I've never seen it. It's one of my husband's favorite so I think I should probably grab a copy and watch it.
