nevada is the least socialist state in the US.

we don't pay squat for taxes or get squat for services either

I guess sometimes you don't get what you don't pay for...lol

Or...it has Las Vegas. A shit hole of a city, populated by some of the dregs of Los Angeles (and elsewhere) and has a negative environment that accompanies a gambling community.

But yeah, feel free claim it as "win" for the pro-socialist group.

So many cries of inequality stem from one of group
of people doing little or nothing and then bitching
about another group that actually does something
    to improve their lives.

we have one of the largest school districts in the country. as in most states NV suffers from depressed wages. the casino's run the show here so they set the bar.

we all know the connection between household income and education attainment, the HS graduation rate here is like 50%, with the end result being the highest teen pregnancy rate in the country. it's a vicious cycle.

besides all this it's a great place for an adult to run a business, shitty place to raise a family. no budget for middle-school sports only basketball and football I think, a couple more sports in HS.

the LA crowd only comes in on the weekends, thank god. they love the club scene. locals by far have the lions share of all the jobs on the strip and in retail. big little city, all about who you know when it comes to employment here.

the strip is for tourists...locals can't pay $8 a beer. when you live here unless you work down there very easy to forget it even exists. I go months w/o going even close to it all the time. telecom work in the casinos is a freaking nightmare. legacy equipment hodgepodged together with new stuff. got called down there last week to work on some phone lines in the Venetian. they have the largest nortel option 81 in north america. 81,000 phone lines it was a freaking nightmare, freaking football field of 66 blocks.

With the exception of the telco stuff, I'm familiar with all of that. I lived in Vegas for almost two years (in Henderson and later Sunrise Mountain). And I've gone back plenty of times.

The most shocking change is North Vegas. Holy hell, what a shit hole. It ranks right up there with Compton.

Keep in mind that the low high school graduation has more to do with the undesirables that moved into Vegas more than the money spent. During Vegas boom, a lot of the dregs of the country moved there.

a lot of people got lured into Vegas during the housing boom. we were seeing appreciation rates of like 15%-25% a year depending on the zip code. even now still tons of people from Cali moving to vegas. you can sell your Cali home buy one in Vegas for cash and still have an easy couple hundred K left in the bank.

north vegas got hit hard. a large percentage of the people there were blue collar construction types, so a decent percentage of blacks and latinos and 1st time home buyers. so when the bottom fell out of the market, it got hammered with foreclosures, etc. I'm out in summerlin on the badlands golf course, we have fared pretty well but still saw a decent amount of depreciation. my gf lives on the other side of the course in the townhomes. they have seen about 40% decline in depreciation, so anyone that didn't take out a 2nd still should be in good shape in terms of equity.

A friend of mine lived there and got out just before the crash. He said that his once nice neighborhood became so bad that he wouldn't let his kids play in the front yard.

It's a small world. When I lived in Vegas I did construction. I built a lot of homes in Summerlin (the smallest house was 4700 sq. ft.). Including a few along some of the gold courses. I did one where the entry spiral staircase was framed in metal. I worked on one in Summerlin that's 20,000 sq. ft.

the uk doesnt have states as such but the whole place is depressing.

its easily 120 males to 100 females due to our migrant workers from poland, romania, lithuania, guarna, etc etc
the goverment tax's us all to the hills and most people on low-average wages are financialy worse off amd struggling to survive compared than those who chose not to work and just claim benafits.

its near on impossable for many first time buyers to buy there 1st house because of high prices and our poor economy-(most banks want 40% deposit and average 2/3 bed house in average area is £150,000 so a £60k deposit is needed and average wage is 12-20k)

we also have high crime rates, high teen pregenancys, drugs etc.

many single parents due to young women deliberatly getting pregenant by any one to get a free apartment and benafit money till the kid is 18.many women do this with 2 or 3 different men so they can recieve big monthly child maintance payments and never even have to work.

honestly i could moan all day about this shite hole

Parts of Northtown are like that. I live in North Vegas' version of Summerlin, it's called Aliante. Really nice area. If you stay in the Aliante area or West, you're fine. You're right about the rest of Northtown, it's a shit hole.

Indiana doesn't seem like it should be on this list. Perhaps I've not been to the right parts of Indiana to see the depressed people.

West Virginia and eastern KY definitely belong on this list!!! Huntington, WV has been rated the most depressed metropolitian area in the country. It's on the WV & KY border. West Virginia has one of the oldest populations in the country. A high percentage of the residents, particularly in rural areas, are retired. If depression and other mental problems are made worse by age that could also explain why WV is on this list.

Lousville, Kentucky is one of the worst, if not the worst, city for allergy suffers in the country. The rating change every year, but it's consistently among the 3 worst cities. Sometimes allergies and depression can go together. Of course the entire state of Kentucky, along with Tennessee and Missouri, are in the allergy belt and are on this list of depressed states.

Thank god for Mississippi. LOL But yes, I was surprised that Bama didn't make the list. The surrounding suburbs of Bham, Tuscaloosa, and Montgomery are fairly nice, although the burbs around Birmingham were hit hard during the housing boom. But, the other 90% of the state is a shit hole, including Bham city.

considering the options we are much better off. an inanimate object has more intelligence then that crazy bitch Sharon Angle, she sure had some "good ideas"...lol. and people called Obama radical...wtf are these wackjobs on the far, far, right then?

the casino's run Vegas anyway always have and always will. just like any other state that rely's heavily on one specific industry. oil in taxes, agriculture in the mid-west, auto industry up north, etc.

If nothing else, there must be a better dem that you guys could elect. I've pretty much decided at this point that I'm going to vote against any incumbent. I'll still vote the right way. But, not for the same clowns who have delivered the same bill of goods over and over again.

didn't you know...right to work states enable laborers the "right to work" for a lower wage, it's freaking awesome! low wages and ever increasing healthcare costs, not a good combination for mental health treatment.

True, but not to worry. The blue states that brought us the current admin have done their fair share to level the playing field. With the true unemployment rate pushing upwards of 20%, the U$D continuing to sink, and no light at the end of the tunnel, the whole country is looking pretty depressing right now.

That being said, I certainly would never bash the first, and possibly only, African American president we've ever had.
    Obama/Ayers 2012!!!
