one on one in the ring with mmafiter would change their minds. you dont need no certifications to open a can of whoop ass on someone. but when it comes to a job, i guess you do.that sucks.
K...had to rant, this is too unbelievable to believe.
mmafiter, which, oddly enough, stands for "mixed martial arts fighter"...which might imply to some who knew him, that he possesses the necessary skills to "fight", certainly, his fight record indicates he can in fact "fight". Some might even stretch that to say he can "defend himself", whether it be in a ring or not.
...okay...you get my point, lol.So rob applied for a new job within the CSC. He would have been instructing all the new correctional officers at the staff college in self defense. In the past, Rob was asked by the current instructor to teach a seminar on self defense to some of the students, which he did. So, rob didn't get this new job because: "As stated on the Qualification Standard, this position requires certification in self-defense. As you have failed to demonstrate that you possess the required certification, your application will not be considered further in the above-noted selection process."

The funny thing is...is that he obviously submitted his certs...he's on the emergency response team...which happens to be the most used and most experienced team in all of Canada, not to mention his black belt degree's in two different art forms. Kinda stupid, lol.
can you complain to a ''higher power'', or is it a ''shit out of luck deal''?????????????

There's one way to find out....
He can appeal this. Trust me. I'm HR for the Government. Did he apply as a Civilian member, or Public Servant? He can reapply, but he must show proof of his certificates. There is usually an appeal period with every Gov. job posting. Contact me if you need help!

What usually happens in this case is that they already had someone in mind that they wanted to hire, and just went through the formalities. It's happen to me before.

Exactly!! I'm pretty sure this is the case here as well. Which I don't mind actually, as long as he/she is as qualified or more qualified than I am. The person they are looking at is an idiot who couldn't fight his way out of a paper bag, and has no idea how to teach someone to defend themselves intelligently.Originally posted by dino

I even asked one of the people doing the hiring point blank, if he had someone in mind. I took him aside and said "I understand if you have one of your own guys slotted for this job, because it makes sense to hire someone you know. I just want to know if I should bother applying or not."
He assured me that I would be in the running. Now, I'm not so naive that I trust what anybody says, let alone a government employee, but I thought this guy was a fellow who respected me and I could respect in return. All I wanted was some freakin' honesty, Geez!
I can't get the stupid cow, who screened me out to answer her phone.Figures. I probably could grieve this appointment, but I'm not going to bother. It just pisses me off that they tell me, I'm not qualified in an area that I have a definitive expertise! I gave the woman, pages and pages of qualifications, certificates, etc....
It's like me telling Prince that I wouldn't hire him because he doesn't know anything about bodybuilding or running a forum! Ridiculous!![]()
This guy may have not known. In some cases it's only the manager hring, and the staffing manager that are aware of the intentions. They want to "go by the book", so they keep it so hush hush, but everyone knows the truth. I once had someone tell me I was out of the designated area for the job......That's bullsh*t. They just need to find the smallest clause so that they can tell you off....
Well good luck to you, and don't worry about it too much. I believe things happen for a reason. Heck if you and w8 ever move to Ottawa, I could get you a nice job where I work....Along the same lines of the above-noted job!
