But you have to realize you're dealing with people who are more compassionate for dogs than they are other humans.

If I saw a dog get hit by a car, and that dog was killled instantly, I would not be sad. The dog went out quickly and mostly painlessly off to the next plain of existence. If I saw that dog get hit by a car, but survive another day in total agony with broken bones, busted ribs, and spitting up blood, I would be filled with suffering and sadness. My ability to project how I think that animal feels back into myself is uncontrollable. It is automatic, just like everyone else who feels empathy towards another creature.

So when I read the stories of the awful shit that he did to those dogs, he might as well have done it to me.
