not really - the little girl will go through life with the understanding that she can positively affect her own appearance with good health practices and good hygiene. how is that screwed?

because that isn't what the mother told her. she said that being "pretty" was a skill which is an absolute lie. being pretty is a physical attribute. that's like saying having a nice rack is a skill...

ok.. I am not arguing that being pretty is a skill. but the mothers message to her daughter could be interpreted that you can work on yourself to be physically more attractive. And I think that belonging to a bodybuilding forumn composed of people who work out to look better; we of all people should respect that message.

You can't blame everything on society, and you can't blame everything on the parents. The parents, however, have to have some kind of internal disconnect to allow themselves to be this overtaken by societal influences. I'm sure the vast majority of parents would not see this as appropriate. At the same time, this mother probably would not suggest such nonsense were the environmental stimulus not present.

Either way, the result is pretty ridiculous.
